Cow Antibody Research In USA A Step Ahead To Replace Plasma Therapy

Cows will now also contribute to the fight against the Coronavirus. Research is going on on this. South Dakota cows in the US are studying how they can be helpful in making drugs or vaccines against Corona. A biotech company has spoken of some genetically modified cows producing antibodies that may be a strong antagonist of SARS-CoV-2.

Explain that this is the pathogen that is the cause of coronavirus infection. The company has planned that its clinical use will be started in a few days.

Infectious disease physician Amesh Adalja of 'John Hopkins University Center for Health Security' said that things are looking hopeful in this direction. He said that all the counter majors we can have against Corona should be arranged.

According to the international 'Science' magazine, SAb Biotherapeutics has claimed that it is possible to treat corona infections with antibodies made in cow's body. Treatments such as anti plasma therapy are being resorted to for treatment of corona.

Research news on the treatment of corona with cow's antibodies has created an expectation. However, some genetic changes are made to the cow's body for this process. It takes about a month to prepare antibodies.

However, the company has also said that it is possible to treat hundreds of corona patients with antibodies given by a cow. The plasma therapy technique being tried right now is said to be four times more effective than it is. Eddie Sullivan, the company's president and CEO, described the cow's body as that of a factory. Cows have far more blood in their bodies than other small creatures.

Another peculiarity of cows' blood is that it contains twice the amount of antibodies than humans. In addition, the cow develops various types of polyclonal antibodies, which are used to attack different parts of the virus. It is a 'range of molecules' that attacks many parts of the virus. The company had completed its clinical trial in the early stages of coronavirus infection.

For this, the cow has to give the starter immunization first. This means that the virus has to be injected into their blood. This is done through the DNA vaccine, which carries the genome of that virus. After this, its antibodies start to form in the cow's blood. After this, part of the virus's spike protein is inserted, which acts like its Passkey. Now it is to be seen that when this antibody is injected into healthy people, will they become immune to corona?

Infectious disease specialist Jeffrey Henderson of Washington University School of Medicine has described antibodies produced by cows as 'logical next steps'. He told that this entire process is scientific and is based on experiences made more than 100 years ago. Antibodies given by the cow are also believed to be more powerful than the rest of the monoclonal antibodies as they are capable of completely destroying the virus.
