Recently the issue has been highlighted at SRM University, Chennai, where a female student complained of sexual assault on her by the worker of Hostel Mess.

The management’s reaction was very strange. Instead of confronting the culprit the Hostel Warden blamed them for wearing short clothes. Warden didn’t take the complaint seriously and stated that, change your dress and go to sleep.

Oh! Come on. Give me a break, did I heard it right. The fault is of girl because she was wearing short clothes so, that anyone has the authority to misbehave with her. I mean, is this the mentality we are living with and feeding the same to our next generation.

We used to talk about Women Empowerment in contrast to this we are not willing to give proper security as well as respect to females. In school and college where everyone learns about equality, there only we are getting incidents of rape and sexual abuse. Is this what the countries future we are looking for?

In our country does the size of the dress will decide whether the girl deserves respect or not? Is it worth saying by the person who is at the management that her dress size is small? After a long protest by the students, college authority filled an FIR, just to save their image. Does this behavior worth-it? If a girl is not safe in the hostel premises then how could we make a better India for them?

If these types of incidents will continue increasing at this pace, then how a parent will allow her daughter to leave the city for further studies. It ultimately makes our society more conservative and leaves no space for the development. As a common saying, “Educate a Women and you educate a Family”. But in this way will it be possible to educate our girls and let her achieve a distinguished post in her life.
