Why Samajwadi Party always support goons and criminals?

Political Opportunism Over Ethics
The Samajwadi Party to backing goons and criminals is strategic in nature in order to attain electoral supremacy. Thus, the party guarantees the subordination of powerful voters’ groups due to pressure from strongmen. It is important to note that such a strategy does not enhance long-term corporate governance hence disadvantageous forces that undermine public trust. Criminal groups muster quick votes and ensure support, which makes them strategic allies in a politics characterized by binary opposition. These alliances reveal the extent to which the party resorts to compromising the principles of ethics for personal gain and perpetuating the vile cycle where criminality and politics intertwine.

Muscle Power for Electoral Control
It becomes pertinent here to mention that the electoral process in Uttar Pradesh is somewhat volatile and muscle factor does play a major role in deciding the winner for electoral battles in the state. The Samajwadi Party uses its muscle power to control rivals and make sure to control all the polls and dominate local bodies. These enforcers force the voters to vote for this party by force and other related actions. This serves the purpose of winning today’s battles but undermines democracy in the process. The culture of violence in politics removes all honest politicians out of the space hence denying voter a chance to choose. It is also evident that the party lacks faith in fair competition and public support relying on criminals.

Criminalization of Party Structure
It’s clear that many of the Samajwadi Party leaders have criminal backgrounds so there is no clear differentiation between politics and crime. This is because those fielding tainted candidates are loyal figures, mostly depending on the party for legal defence. In return, they give votes by force and by maintaining influence over the population. This makes criminization possible, as the criminals are protected by political powers. It shows a culture that the ruling party is willing to accept criminal elements into its fold as a way of operations. Thus, voters, finding themselves locked in this system, do not always have an option but to contribute to the maintenance of this squirrel cage.

Vote Bank Politics at Any Cost
Caste and community-based vote bank politics are also visible in the Samajwadi Party’s continued association with criminals. Henchmen from dominant castes get to rally people around them with the intention of securing block votes. This splits society further along ethnic, religious, tribal or other lines yet ensures that the politician in power can have his way on the ballot box. Since the criminal elements are protected by the party, the party secures loyalty from those particular communities at the price of law and order. Such tactics often subdue the broad ‘public good’ thus resulting in a rather a cycle of dependency and fear amongst the voter populace.

Undermining Democracy and Rule of Law
The mainstream parties have no sense of shame or decency like the Samajwadi Party which openly supports criminals to bring illegitimacy to governance. This demeans the democratic process, since there is the notion that criminals make the laws. The justice process and fair trial get compromised when the accused persons influence the investigations and trials. Instead of the party providing legal defense to cases of corruption and calling for justice, the party acts in protection of its corrupt cases as if crime does pay politically. So, till the time political parties do not shun the rapists and criminals, Indian democracy will continue to pay the price in terms of corruption and violence in elections.
