An emblem of anti-Taliban struggle: Panjshir

Playing text to speech

The Panjshir province which had been the long-hold of the Taliban since their Afghanistan capture has been completely arrested by the Taliban. The Taliban spokesperson declared that they have acquired full control over Panjshir. What needs to be noted here is that one extremely devoted group known by the name of National Resistance Front (NRF) in Afghanistan tried to fight against the Taliban and save their province. Also, they have clearly denied any claims that were put forward by the Taliban regarding the capture of the region.

The NRF constitutes thousands of fighters made up of local militia and remnants of the Afghan army. They are popular for their struggle against the Soviet Union war in Afghanistan. And on the plus side, their leader is Ahmad Masood, followed by the ex-vice President of Afghanistan. Since Panjshir geographically lies between the snow-clad mountains and high peaks, it gives the region high military importance. Both the rival groups had taken full advantage of this and the NRF fought bravely.

What was commendable to see, is the strength, bravery, and love for the motherland that they possess in spite of being surrounded by the Taliban from all four sides. They did not fear the terrorist groups and fought with them bravely for 2 weeks. Repeating their famous history of prohibiting any alien interference in Panjshir. Even after so much they have denied the control of the Taliban over their province and claim that they still have control over all the strategic positions of the valley.

The world witnesses their undying commitment to independence from the Taliban.

Mr. Masood has been trying to get foreign aid in this issue from the US and other powerful communities. They say that if the Taliban acquires full control over Panjshir then the whole of Afghanistan would be the target of atrocities.

• Reports claim that around 2.5 lakh people have been suffering from human blockade caused by the Taliban there.

• They have cut communication lines and other supplies for the region.

Is this what the International organizations have been waiting to witness? Is there no one who could lend positive support for independence? This question resides in the hearts of blood-stricken Afghanis and several people of the world as they watch the deadly situation taking form.

The leaders suggest that this could be the biggest humanitarian catastrophe if no action is taken immediately. Starvation, mass killing, or even genocide are the predicted consequences of this crisis. Panjshir was the only region that was surviving and repulsing the attacks of the Taliban army. Now it stands in dilemma.

What’s more heinous to watch is that Pakistan has already begun showing its support to the Taliban. During the Panjshir struggle, the Pak air force helped the Taliban by dropping bombs over Panjshir and attacking NRF fighters. This act came to be witnessed after the Pak special agency ISI visited Kabul recently. Sporadic fighting continued for days between NRF and Taliban at Panjshir, Pak was seen adding fuel to the fire.

Panjshir was earlier popular by the name of Graveyard of the Soviet tanks.

The Taliban, hiding its face in shame, declared that the Islamic Emirates of Taliban is home to all the Afghans and they would not be discriminated against. They also said that brotherhood and equal opportunities are the only things that they want to offer Afghanistan.

However, the NRF said that the Taliban had no reason whatsoever to attack Panjshir, considering religious, political, or human rationalism. They also said that they would end the war and strive for peace in the region if the Taliban leaves stubbornness and gives up on attacking them.

Although peace couldn’t be attained, the NRF still continues to fight with the Taliban, disregarding their claims of capture.

Amidst this crisis and ongoing war, Qatar and Bahrain are doing a commendable job in their capacity. Ever since the US troops left Afghanistan, they have been sending tons of aid planes to the country, carrying medical help & food supplies.

We hope that everyone does their bit and comes forward to helping or at least voicing their opinions on the Taliban-Afghanistan war. As the leaders of NRF demanded earlier, there is an urgent need for foreign aid in all forms.
