A derailment near Raghunathpur railway station  in Bihar's Buxar district resulted in the loss of four lives and left 70 individuals wounded on Wednesday evening.

At 9:53 pm, during its journey from Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi to Kamakhya Junction in Assam's Guwahati, the North East Express experienced the derailment of six of its coaches. Television footage depicted the derailment of four coaches, with two AC 3 Tier coaches overturned.

Train 12506 (Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya) was traversing the primary track at Raghunathpur station. TheRailway Ministry  reported that six coaches were derailed.

On Wednesday, at 7:40 am, the train with 23 coaches started its journey from Delhi's Anand Vihar terminal towards Kamakhya, which would take approximately 33 hours.

According to Buxar SP Manish Kumar, four individuals lost their lives in the incident. According to an official from the Railway Police Force, numerous passengers have sustained injuries and have been transferred to nearby medical facilities. Individuals who sustained severe injuries were promptly transported to AIIMS  in Patna.

Immediately following the incident, relief measures were promptly put into action as ambulances and medical professionals swiftly arrived at the scene. Multiple trains, such as the Rajdhani Express  connecting Delhi to Dibrugarh, have been rerouted, totaling over 21 trains operating on this particular route.

According to a statement from the East Central Railway zone, two trains, namely the Kashi Patna Jan Shatabdi Express (15125) and the Patna Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express (15126), were also called off. The train was proceeding at a regular pace when all of a sudden, a loud noise caught our attention and a cloud of smoke emerged from it.

We promptly went to witness the incident. Upon witnessing the derailment, it was evident that the AC coaches had incurred the most significant damage. According to a railway official, monitoring war rooms have been set up to ensure the swift restoration of coaches and ongoing rescue operations . Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the evacuation and rescue operations had been successfully finalized. He expressed his sympathies to the deceased individuals and stated that the government would diligently investigate the underlying cause of the train accident.

Officials announced that the department's main priority will be the repair of the affected line, and they confirmed that a train had arrived to transport the stranded passengers to Guwahati. Ashwini Kumar Choubey, a Union Minister and the MP of Buxar, stated that he was informed about the train derailment and is currently en route to Raghunathpur. He reported having a conversation with both railway and district officials in relation to the incident.

Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister, disclosed that he had engaged in discussions with representatives from the Disaster Management and Health Departments of Buxar and Bhojpur. He urged them to promptly arrive at the location, expedite the rescue efforts, and create appropriate medical preparations for the wounded individuals.

The Bihar government is actively engaged in the rescue operation, providing aid and medical assistance to the affected individuals and those who have sustained injuries. Due to the Buxar train derailment, which resulted in the unfortunate loss of four lives and injuries to 70 individuals, the Indian Railways has taken the precautionary measures of cancelling two trains and redirecting the route of 21 trains. According to a statement from the East Central Railway zone, the cancellation of the Kashi-Patna Shatabdi Express (15125) and Patna-Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express (15126) trains after the incident has been linked to the occurrence.

Nevertheless, the train was approaching at an average pace when, out of nowhere, a deafening noise resonated and a cloud of smoke billowed from the locomotive. We quickly went to see what occurred. Hari Pathak, a local resident, noted that the AC coaches  of the train incurred significant damage after it derailed. Television footage depicted locals swiftly coming to the aid of the passengers, assisting them in safely exiting from at least two overturned coaches.

The visuals displayed a woman passenger who appeared shocked, receiving assistance from locals as she exited a coach. The zonal railways have also implemented alternative measures by arranging transportation from Ara railway station to ensure that passengers of the derailed train can continue their journeys.

A scratch rake was sent from Patna to transport passengers from the location of the accident. This temporary rake closely resembles the original train in its configuration. Additionally, it offered a source of rejuvenation for the travelers.
