House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan surged tension in China

The moment has been recorded in the history of Taiwan when the highest-ranking American official Nancy Pelosi visited the self-ruled island of Taiwan in 25 years. Taiwan, the island that used to be claimed as an integral part of china now slipping towards a self-governing country.

China believes Taiwan’s boundary is a part of China and hence it has the authority to rule but after Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan spread a message of being an independent and self-governing body based on democratic principles.

China’s President Xi Jinping warned President Joe Biden against Mrs. Pelosi’s Taiwan visit. China also informed America about the live–fire military exercises this week in the areas covering the island. 

Nancy Pelosi after landing in Taiwan said “America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant democracy.”

She also visited the legislature of Taiwan and she commented “we come in friendship to Taiwan, we come in peace to the region,” 

While in an address, Pelosi explained how the world is divided between Democracy and autocracy and she vowed to stand by the democratic principles and Taiwan.

Pelosi said “more than ever, America’s solidarity with Taiwan is crucial,” also added, “we will not abandon our commitment to Taiwan and we are proud of our enduring friendship.”

She also assured that she would “firmly uphold our nation’s sovereignty and continue to hold the line of defense for democracy.”

Chinese officials condemned the visit of the House Speaker to the so-called China territory of Taiwan and in response, they summoned the U.S. ambassador and inform him about the live-fire exercise near the island region during the presence of Nancy Pelosi.

The Foreign Ministry of China said about the trip “severely infringes upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” 

Where China is criticizing America’s step in disturbing the peace of the region an American counter person said the visit was a reaffirmation of support for Taiwan that is in line with the longstanding policies of the U.S. The visit also can be concluded as part of a broader push to bolster democratic ideals.

The statement in which Nancy Pelosi cleared her visit intention as “America’s solidarity with the 23 million people of Taiwan is more important today than ever, as the world faces a choice between autocracy and democracy,” House Speaker said.

No doubt that the tensions between both the countries have been surged after making the visit and also the consequences of the bitterness can be seen easily in the future actions of the individual country. 

When the whole world has witnessed the conflict between Russia and Ukraine over the boundary issue and how the war encroached on the peace of the region similarly the matter of China and its so-called integral part Taiwan also have the possibility of turning into a war-like situation.
