Bappi Lahiri is no more with us, he dies in CityCare Hospital, Mumbai at 69.


The Disko Pop King is dead now.

Indian Veteran Singer’s soul is not with us anymore, he died in CityCare hospital in Mumbai on 15 February 2022. The cause of death is a disease named Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The disease is a specific sleeping disease that affected the respiratory system. The affected can’t inhale a sufficient amount of oxygen from their lungs. During sleep at night, one will have some obstacles in inhaling and it used to affect the person who snores during sleep.

Bappi Lahiri was a renowned singer and he bought the Disko Pop music in the Indian Cinema industry and he was the one who was making the rock at his peak time.

He was not only loved in India but also in Russia, his song ‘Jimmy Jimmy, Aaja Aaja was attracted a huge fan following from Russia and innovated a new culture of music with glittery bell-bottoms, hundreds of twinkling light bulbs, pelvic moves accompanied by synths, horns, rhythm guitars and syncopated basslines.

The legendary singer was admitted to the CityCare hospital in Delhi a month before and returned home on 15 February 2022. He passed away due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea and he has one daughter and one son Bappa Lahiri and Reena Lahiri.


His singing style was the teaching of his parents Aparesh Lahiri and Bansuri Lahiri, he was born in West Bengal and he grew up in Bengal by listening to the singing of Bengal. He also used to listen to his maternal uncle, actor, and playback singer Kishor Kumar.

After adopting the basic concept of learning he came to Mumbai at 19 years of age. The time when Bappi came to Mumbai was the time of the great singer RD Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and Kalyanji-Anandji. He adopted the melody voice of such a veteran singer. He was a BJP party worker.


India was still dealing with the mourning of the Death of Lata Mangeshkar and again we have been loaded with deep sorrow in our hearts.

I still remember her creation Kabhi Alvida Na Kahna and the title song Chalte Chalte by Bappi Lahiri.

I am in a deep state of sorrow after losing the two legendary singers. They will always be in our hearts in the form of their songs and works.
