What Virdas did wrong at the JF Kennedy Centre, Washington, DC?
Playing text to speech
Okay, so, long story short, Virdas, a famous stand-up comedian had a show at the JF Kennedy Centre where he address a poem stating parallelism between two Indias, where he stated what he believes(in the concept of two Indias).
You can watch the video here.
What’s sensitive in his poem?
However, netizens, as always didn’t look at the whole video but just watched a small clip of 10 seconds of the “6-minute” video and draw perceptions over that. This is just a clear observation that people do form biased opinions easily and get convinced on these sensitive issues.
Let’s look at the statement for which he is being trolled, the statement was “I come from two India’s where Indian men worship women during the day and another one where they gang rape women at night.”
This statement cannot be easily digestible at first because it is a sensitive issue but whoever reading this article knew that it is the reality where we live in. You just can’t deny the reality where women in our country fear leaving their homes after 9 pm.
This is the India we live in. We have certain issues like women’s exploitation, dowry, rape, and others but what grabs the hype is that Virdas insults our country in front of people living abroad.
This is just a generalized statement to make without introspecting the whole statement and the parallelism that he has stated in his poem, “Two Indias.”

What does he mean when creating a parallelism between two Indias?
Let me throw some shades and bring clarity to this sensitive “issue” because, in the poem, he clearly draws out the reality of two different Indias where we live in. It doesn’t mean that if you accept the first one, then you have to ignore the latter one.
We have to accept Two Indias because it would possibly work for us to build a great nation and put reforms along the line in rectifying what we did wrong.
Other than the above lines of the poem that is considered as an issue, also, he beautifully draws parallelism on different subjects as well.
Have a look at those statements as well-
“I come from an India where the AQI (air quality index) is 9,000 but we still sleep on the roof and look at the stars.”
“I come from an India where we take pride in being vegetarian, and yet run over the farmers who grow our vegetables.”
“I come from an India that has the largest working population under 30 on the planet but still listens to 75-year-old leaders with 150-year-old ideas.”
There are other statements as well which can easily become a medium to awaken a sense of responsibility in the netizens but they consider one statement and make it an issue out of nowhere.
We are the ones who build it and we are the ones who destroy it(nation), so why not take this as a criticism and find ways for improvement in every nook and corner without being judgmental at first.
However, there are more issues to think about, we need to consider that only. This “Virdas issue” is just hype that will eventually fume away. We need to look at the possibilities and ways to criticize someone or even the government for what is wrong and what is right.
Why do netizens keep criticizing him?
As I said above, it’s just a hype that will eventually fume away with time but all we can do is to focus on other sensitive topics that are actually beneficial for the betterment of our country and its people.
Most people need a medium to passage their inferior anger and they just need a trend to follow. Therefore, it is better if you don’t make an issue out of everything that you see.
What are my views on this “issue”?
Okay, so let’s wrap it up and conclude this on what I feel about this whole situation. I guess, you already got a perspective of mine by reading the above paragraphs because I really think this is something that doesn’t require much of your time as there are other sensitive issues that need to be addressed and need your voices.

He clearly talks about the different Indias that we live in...ranging topics from AQI(air quality Index) level to farmer’s protest. But the actual “issue” arises when he talks about the condition of women in India and clearly depicts the parallel situation in India.
