Also, Bharat Ratna is awarded to the person for their service irrespective of occupation, sex, race, position.

When this award was initiated for the first time, it majorly focuses on the achievements limited to arts, literature, science, and public services but in December 2011, the government broaden the criteria to “ any field of human endeavor.”

Maximum three awardees can be selected for Bharat Ratna in a year. Prime Minister is the one who recommends the name of the nominee for Bharat Ratna to the President.

Along with other civil honors, the Bharat Ratna got briefly suspended for three years from July 1977 to January 1980 because it was the time when the national government is changing and new amendments were forming.

Furthermore, it again(August 1992 to December 1995) got suspended when certain PILs challenged the constitutional validity of certain civil honors along with the Bharat Ratna.

The current award is looking like a peepal leaf, around 2+516 inches (59 mm) long, 1+78 inches (48 mm) wide, and 18 inches (3.2 mm) thick and rimmed in platinum.

The Bharat Ratna is considered the highest civilian award in our country and I believe the awardees who have been awarded the Bharat Ratna have selflessly served their service for the nation not only in the field of art & literature but also in sports and politics too.

One of the major things I love about Bharat Ratna is that it is awarded to the person and their service irrespective of their occupation, gender, race, and sex.
