Renovation: Causes Wastage of Resources
Playing text to speech
Renovation not only means construction of new infrastructure, but it also means, Construction and Demolition of existing infrastructure. Construction and Demolition cause wastage of huge amount of different resources. Wastage in Renovation gives a negative impact on the environment, cost, time, productivity, manpower, and monetary loss to the country. During renovation all the existing materials have been considered as a wastage, in spite of that, it can be used at other places as well. Recently, I experienced a huge amount of changes in the city of Prayagraj, from where I belong to. Just on this basis, I am sharing my views over it.
First and foremost what Prayagraj has seen is the demolition of houses to make the roads widen. In this process, a huge number of houses were demolished which causes collection of a large number of raw materials like bricks and wires. So, the point is that, the authority which was assigned to look forward all these things and manage everything properly. They put all the raw material as waste and dumped it somewhere. “I just like to say, in spite of wasting these bricks. It can be reused somewhere as also. Like they can be sold to poor people in cheap rates, or reuse the good bricks in making other things (Government Grain Storage Houses which are lacking proper infrastructure, or at making drainage ways) instead of using the new and fresh bricks”.
Secondly, all the electric wires have been removed and replaced with good quality wires for making the wires underground. Even at many places, these wires are left as it is on the polls. These removed wires are also kept as waste and later sold through the bidding process. It will only give the government a very amount of money in return, for the wires which can have a life of many years left. On this, I would like to mention that, “These wires are utilized in some rural places wherever the demand for a lot of energy economical or more power wire is required. As well as, these wires can also be used to those rural areas where there is still no such facility of electricity”.
Thirdly, the Electric pole and the Street Light Poles are also replaced with the new ones. The renovation and replacement of old thing are good but removing it and keeping it as waste is not a good call. All these Electric and Street Light poles can be used again after a little maintenance. All these huge electric poles and street lights can be used at the place where there is no such facility. Why considering all these things as a waste?
There are many other aspects as well which gets wasted during this renovation phase, whether it is Human Power or money. The work is still going on, which had to finish much earlier. This slow pace of work causes a huge lump of monetary loss for the government. The construction company which is only focused on doing the work irrespective of the fact that it might cause loss of existing resources. The changes in plans also cause the loss of many resources. The roads are dug twice first for telecommunication wires, then later on for electric wires. Why it is so? This work can be done at a time and the manpower and money can be saved through this.
It is just a little effort to highlight the points which can be corrected and would be very helpful in future activities. As every city needs renovation and improvement at the frequent interval. So, all these points would be helpful in the future and for the new governments.
