Deliberating over the summers will make you less stressed while you ponder over it sitting in your snug rooms. However, the humans working outdoors seem a lot frustrated and at times harassed by the savagery of the sun. In India, summers are no romantic. None waits for the season as it is awaited in the west. Humus, sweat and the hot and strong gushes of Loo makes it too weary to entertain any poetic ideas.
Strolling on the heart-struck roads of India, you will find most of the faces wrapped in a piece of cloth. All of it to save their faces from sun tan, sunburns et cetera. The summers in India are always accompanied with windstorms and contingent showers, which only add up to the problem as it raises humidity and fills the air with dust particles.
The condition is worse in less developed areas where there is much little space and too little facilities of hygiene, water and electricity. Street fights between women over water, protests for electricity and a number of cases reported every year of diseases caused by insects which grow in dingy, hot and humid areas unveil the real face of summers in India. Monsoon, the relief thing, is not only the relief thing but an amazing torture enhancer. Floods are everyday news.
Still, the summer fruits, summer evenings, summer vacations and the summer fashion share a common thing, ‘summer’. Summers are hard in here but not that upsetting. ‘Not that upsetting’ because Indians know well how to smile through all such times or because they have many more problems to solve than this summer thing.
Still, the time has come when we get serious and start to take this climate change seriously for the sake of us, humanity and mother earth. Let us beat the summers less with sunscreen and more by planting trees, by lowering the concentration of carbon dioxide that is by lowering the use of machines and vehicles which are a reason for its emission, by using more of public transport, bicycles and even by walking to the nearby store. All these efforts may seem slow but are immensely important. Environmental concerns are need of the hour. It is high time and we all need to realize our social responsibilities and take steps in order to increase awareness and by some means decrease the wrath of summers.
