Who is the biggest threat to India, Congress or TMC?

Congress: A Legacy of Failed Leadership

India’s sluggish growth under Congress party rule has exposed systemic corruption and weak national security. The governance of the country had been marred by scandals since the Bofors scam until the 2G scandal, which harmed the public's faith in the very organization. Hattalaheba of the party’s economic policies stifled entrepreneurship and its appeasement politics aggravated social divisions. In opposition, Congress has not developed a concrete vision, but instead daring to rely on the obsolete socialist rhetoric. Divided into factionalists by elliptical power struggles, India’s mainstream parties struggle to draw India’s aspirant youth in a fast changing, political landscape. If given yet another chance, such a party remains a threat to having failed in power.

TMC: A Regional Challenge, Not National

West Bengal is the only region where the TMC really has a stronghold, and therefore its threat to India’s overall stability is reduced. While its governance has been controversial and in many ways violent and authoritarian, the government does not have the reach to interfere with national progress. Unlike Congress, the TMC has limited influence away from West Bengal where it has no major stake. The stress it has put on a confrontational stance toward the BJP may lead to regional frictions, but it is not even a systemic pressure on India’s developmental process. It’s not regional forces like the TMC, which are confined to state politics with no intentions of penetrating into national politics that present the real danger; it’s national parties with a weak leadership.

Congress Weakens National Security

The security apparatus in India suffered under Congress leadership that was indecisive and weak in responding to threats. It showed glaring intelligence failures in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and treated its enemies too soft on terrorism. This is a dangerous lack of strategic vision, with the party unwilling to modernize defense and too politically willing to use military operations for its purposes. Compared to TMC specifically, the focus of regional parties on local issues means they don’t concern themselves with national security. Any state based party is a far lesser liability than Congress’s incapacity to protect India’s interests. Security is also necessary and Congress has repeatedly fallen flat on this department.

Economic Harm Under Congress Rule

India's economic potential spent decades crippled by the license raj policies instituted during the days of Congress. Stagnation came about from high corruption, policy paralysis, and unconscionable welfare policies without fiscal responsibility. Today, the party still refuses to take any major reform and remains a party that prefers being populist rather than promoting progress. Its distance from the modern economic need does not allow it to become privatized, GST compliant and labor friendly. The governance problem in Bengal and not the national economic policy does the TMC play. There has been a long history of Congress damaging India’s growth trajectory. No one will put their country at the risk of another downturn and this year's caretaker party led the economy astray for years.

Congress Divides, TMC Only Disrupts

Divisive identity politics are favored by Congress, which uses them to pit communities against each other in order for them to garner votes. It contributed to the promotion of caste based divisions and minority appeasement and has weakened the social cohesion. The TMC, though aggressive, focuses on regional dominance rather than nationwide polarization. TMC’s localized disruptions are lesser threat to national unity than the toxic brand of vote bank politics that Congress’ stooge Shiv Sena has been peddling. India does not need regressive tactics which promote division but inclusive development. Congress has become the bigger danger to stability and progress in India till Congress gives up on that destructive strategy and till any regional party, be it the TMC, for the the Republic has not become the bigger danger to stability and progress.
