Political Alliances in Flux

The political era in Bihar is expected to take a new turn with parties gearing up for next year’s Lok Sabha elections. The ruling NDA alliance in Bihar and particularly the JDU and BJP partners of the alliance are fully conscious of the fact that it is the factor that unites them despite small strains here and there. However, the Grand Alliance that includes RJD, Congress, and Left parties is not giving up on presenting a strong image. The influence of regional parties has also started making efforts towards extending their area of control in parties. These shifts depict the existing political rivalry in Bihar as this state depends on a majority coalition in its assembly. This will especially be done through coalitions of the willing where parties seek to establish alliances that will increase their numerical strengths in voter support.

Unemployment Dominates Public Discourse

Unemployment is considered to be a major problem in Bihar where thousands of youths migrate for employment purposes every year. Presently, political institutions push for resolution of this crisis as it affects the advancement and public opinion of the state. The coalition argues that the government lacks policies for creating employment opportunities within the country while the opposition is concerned with the measures for developing skills. Though they want ideals such as industrialization and support of business ventures and, Since the party that best tackles employment is set to benefit electorally, it has maintained its animal status in the current political campaigns.

Caste Dynamics Influence Strategies

In Bihar, the caste factor remains the most dominant in determining the various political processes and strategies. All the major parties are planning their strategies and strategies to win the support of the most castes prevalent in Bihar such as Yadavs, Dalits, and OBC. The RJD is, therefore, strengthening its traditional Yadav-Muslim vote banks while the BJP is aiming at consolidating the non-Yadav OBC and upper caste vote base. Since it is so crucial, JDU is trying to woo people of this caste evenly. The emphasis on a caste-based rally decreases the focus on other developmental objectives. However, exclusion of the caste factor is not possible in Bihar as it plays a dominant role in its sociopolitical structure and has a bearing on electoral reasoning.

Healthcare and Education Under Scrutiny

Bihar's healthcare and education systems are coming under severe attack by voters who are clamoring for reforms. The vulnerabilities of the structure of the state’s healthcare infrastructure were exposed during the time of pandemic COVID-19, thereby projecting the need for improved facilities and accessibility. The education sector faces low literacy rates and a lack of resources as in the other areas. Voters doubt political promises of change because past promises to improve have not been kept. By using these issues, opposition parties are using these things against the ruling government and the NDA is talking about its welfare schemes. These policies are so effective that they could sway voter sentiment for this upcoming election.

Farmer’s Issues Take Center Stage

Bihar is having a major problem of agricultural distress, where farmers are facing problems of poor irrigation, low crop prices, and no market access. And, this issue is appealed to by the political parties to win the rural electorate votes, which constitutes a sizable percentage of the votes. Campaigns are emphasizing promises of better irrigation facilities, fair pricing, and crop diversification. The ruling alliance is touting its schemes for the farmers while the opposition claims the government travesty ignores farmers. But resolving farmers’ problems could be a game changer in elections in Bihar, where rural voters have the key to winning political battles.
