One of music's brightest stars has been removed from the global stage.
Folk singer Sharda Sinha, who won Padma Bhushan recently, died at the age of 72, and she will always be remembered. Popularly regarded for her powerful vocal abilities and earnest cultural connection and support of Bihar, Sinha’s contributions to Indian music cannot be measured.
Sharda Sinha was born in 1950 in Bihari, a small town. She was born into a musical family and took birth to be a singer. She was profoundly influenced by folklore in her area, which shaped her musical style. She was a passionate woman and a valuable addition to folk music, as she gained great popularity shortly after the show.
One of the reasons that people in all states of India loved Singah was because she was fluent in creating traditional Bengali songs with modern lyrics.
Sinha built a successful career over several decades; she has released several music albums and held countless live performances. Her songs were mostly focused on the beauty of country life, love, and hardships of a regular working population. Songs such as ‘Madhubani’ and ‘Bihar ke Lala’ were popularised and remained so for many more tracks that reached people everywhere. She was actually able to trigger certain emotions among the people through her performances.
For her great ability and deserving efforts as a talented singer, she was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2016, which is the third-highest civilian award in India. This honour was proof of her commitment to the preservation and popularisation of Indian folk songs. It also explained her reach and how she has now taken Bihar’s sound to the national and international platforms.
She has left a blank to be filled in so many! Many people have given her tributes, beginning with how ever her music influenced their lives. It is a good message that would end on the notion stating how art works in unifying individuals as well as those feelings that they can draw out.
Sinha was not only a singer; she was a brand ambassador. In this regard, she dedicated herself to carrying forward Bihar folk tradition while giving fusion troupes notable to the young generation. Regardless of her attempts at preserving traditional music in a world that is quickly changing, this was praiseworthy. It was something that she knew she wanted to pass on about the culture and made it her duty to do so.
With respect to her life, we cannot overemphasise the difference that she made to the music and mass media culture of India. Sharda Sinha was therefore a symbol of this link between the two eras, of the beauty of the cultural tradition that was alive in current conscience. It means that her songs will still be popular for the new generations of singers and listeners.
Thus, Bihari’s maestro Sharda Sinha’s death is a major setback to the world of music. She will be remembered mainly for her recordings and the many others whose lives were enriched by her performances. While paying our last respect to her kind-hearted nature and wonderful personality, let us also recall her achievements and her service to Indian folk music.
She may be gone, but she will never be forgotten, as she left with her voice ringing in our minds. Rest in peace, Sharda Sinha. All your music is notable and will always be remembered.
