India is a country that has been facing Illegal Migration for many years. It has become home for migrants from neighbouring countries. Migrants feel India is a safer place for them to take shelter. India is the most populated country in the world and illegal migrants are creating many problems for India. Most of the migrants who come to India are from Bangladesh and Nepal, like if we take Bangladesh’s example. India and Bangladesh have a border that is approximately 4096 km long. 

The question that comes to mind is whether Is NRC necessary for a country like India and the answer is obviously Yes but NRC needs to be implemented well and without any biasedness. It has to be fair for every citizen living in the country without any cultural or religious discrimination because if any sought of discrimination happens it will create yet another religious clash between the citizens. People have had their doubts regarding NRC and the government needs to clear all those doubts first to avoid any further issues. Keeping the current scenario of Bangladesh in mind it has become an urgent need to implement NRC in India.

Since Independence, a lot of people have come to India including both refugees and migrants. There is no appropriate data on the illegal migrants who have entered India from Bangladesh but if reports are to be believed somewhere around 15-16 million Bangladeshis have taken shelter in India without any citizenship. Also Keeping all the current political situation of Bangladesh in mind it is expected that more and more migrants might illegally enter India.

What is NRC?

National Register Of Citizens or NRC is a process whereby the Citizenship status of every person living in India will be tested based on documents provided by them. NRC is a register to keep a proper record of Indian Citizens. NRC doesn’t eliminate illegal migrants but it keeps a record of the citizens of the country. Other countries generally have a proper record of their citizens or we can say they have proper Citizenship for the people living in their country. Like other countries, India has citizen identification cards like Ration Cards, PAN cards, and Aadhar cards. Other countries have proper registries of their citizens but India doesn’t have any proper registry of its citizens. India has been facing the problem of Illegal Migration and India is not the only which has been facing this issue but there are other countries as well who are facing the problem.

It is the right time that India should implement NRC in India to stop this Illegal Migration. Not only this but India should also increase the security forces on the borders to stop illegal migration. If India does not take strict action against this Illegal Migration then in the coming time keeping the current situation of Bangladesh in mind India might not be able to control it in the future as well. Before the condition gets out of hand India needs to implement NRC without any further delay and without harming the sentiments of its citizens.
