India is a rapidly developing country that is seeing a boom in its infrastructure sector. The government has initiated several large-scale projects to improve the country's transportation networks, including the construction of expressways. Expressways are high-speed highways designed to reduce travel time between two cities or regions, and India is set to have several new expressways in the coming years.

1. Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is one of the most ambitious road projects undertaken in India. The 1,320 km-long expressway will connect India's two largest cities, Delhi and Mumbai, passing through six states. The project is expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh crore and will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities.
2. Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway
The Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway is a 262 km-long expressway that will connect the cities of Chennai and Bengaluru. The expressway is being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities by around 50%.
3. Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is a 600 km-long expressway that will connect Delhi, Amritsar, and Katra. The project is being developed by the NHAI and is expected to cost around Rs 25,000 crore. The expressway will significantly reduce travel time between these cities and promote tourism in the region.
4. Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway
NHAI's 109-kilometer Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway (NH-751) is a four-lane, access-controlled road that will connect Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) via Dholera International Airport in Navagam to Sardar Patel Ring Road near Sarkhej.
The undertaking's Point by point Task Report (DPR) was ready by SMEC India Pvt. Ltd. The land acquisition for this greenfield expressway, which is a component of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project (DMIC), was completed in July 2020. In November 2020, Sadbhav Engineering, GHV India, and DRA Infracon received construction contracts.
5 Delhi-Meerut Expressway
The Delhi-Meerut Expressway is a 96 km-long expressway that will connect Delhi and Meerut. The project is being developed by the NHAI and is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities by around 60%. The expressway will also reduce traffic congestion in Delhi and promote economic growth in the region.
6. Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway
The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is a 701 km-long expressway that will connect Mumbai and Nagpur. The project is being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and is expected to cost around Rs 46,000 crore. The expressway will reduce travel time between the two cities from 16 hours to just 8 hours.
7. Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway
The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway is a 2,100 km-long expressway that will connect Amritsar in Punjab to Jamnagar in Gujarat. The project is being developed by the NHAI and is expected to cost around Rs 1.2 lakh crore. The expressway will connect several major cities in northwestern India and promote economic growth in the region.
8. Chennai-Salem Expressway
The Chennai-Salem Expressway is a 277 km-long expressway that will connect Chennai and Salem. The project is being developed by the NHAI and is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities by around 50%. The expressway is estimated to cost around Rs 10,000 crore.
9. Nagpur-Hyderabad-Bangalore Expressway
The Nagpur-Hyderabad-Bangalore Expressway is a 1,100 km-long expressway that will connect Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. The project is being developed by the NHAI and is expected to cost around Rs 35,000 crore
10. Dwarka Expressway
Northern Fringe Street or NH 248-BB, usually known as Dwarka expressway is a 27.6 km (17.1 mi) long, under development, 8-lane, elevated level isolated turnpike interfacing Dwarka in Delhi to Kherki Daula Cost Square, Gurgaon in Haryana. The expressway will start at km 20 of NH 48 (the old NH 8) in Mahipalpur, Delhi, and end at km 40 of NH 48 near the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurgaon, Haryana. It was initially planned to be 18 km (11 mi) long and should have opened in 2012, but problems with land acquisition delayed the project.[3] The entire project, which was planned in 2006 and cost 7,500 crore, was awarded a contract in 2011.
