Who is the new CEO of YouTube
Playing text to speech
Neal Mohan will take over as CEO of YouTube following the resignation of Susan Wojcicki on Thursday (February 16). Google, the parent company of YouTube, began in Wojcicki's garage.
Her departure comes at a time when AI chatbots like ChatGPT, which are now integrated with Microsoft's Bing Search, are causing both excitement and concern about how they might change how the world searches for information online. TikTok and Instagram Reels, which produce short-form videos, also pose a significant threat to YouTube.
Mohan tweeted to Wojcicki, "It's been amazing to work with you over the years." You have transformed YouTube into an exceptional platform for creators and viewers. I am excited to carry on this wonderful and significant mission. Looking forward to the future."
Neal Mohan, a Stanford alumnus, joined Google in 2008 and now oversees YouTube's music and short films as chief product officer. He has also worked for Microsoft and is on the boards of 23andMe, a genomics and biotechnology company, and Stitch Fix, a personal styling service. Additionally, he is a member of the independent US think tank the Council on Foreign Relations.
Mohan enrolled in Stanford University's Graduate School of Business in the early 2000s to pursue an MBA after earning a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering there.
He was a part of the internet advertising company DoubleClick for a long time. With Google's obtaining in 2007, he turned into a piece of the tech goliath, and later became senior VP of Show and Video Promotions. " He has a great understanding of our product, business, user and creator communities, employees, and customers. "Neal will be a great YouTube leader," Wojcicki stated.
Since becoming chief product officer in 2015, Mohan has overseen and launched YouTube's other most important products, according to Fast Company.
He stated to Fast Company last year, "The best analogy that comes to mind for me is really just thinking about YouTube as a stage." "The best views possible of the creators that they are most excited about" are necessary for viewers.
He was once offered a Chief Product Officer position at Twitter, according to a 2013 Business Insider report, but Google spent close to $100 million to keep him there. A former boss also said that he was a "rare" combination, "an ‘insatiable technologist' who also had enough business savvy" to interact strategically with customers.
Mohan, who is of Indian descent, is one of several CEOs who are leading other global tech giants. Others include Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, Shantanu Narayen, the CEO of Adobe, and Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet. Raj Subramaniam, CEO of FedEx, one of the largest transportation services companies in the world, and Laxman Narasimhan, who is set to take over as CEO of Starbucks, are two examples of CEOs of Indian descent who have recently led other significant US businesses.
