What is a Stess Test?

Stress tests are used to see how well your heart responds to the hardest work.

During the test, you will be asked to exercise while connected to an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine (usually a treadmill). This allows the doctor to monitor the heart rate.

A stress test is also called an exercise test or a treadmill test.

Why are you taking the stress test?
Exercise stress tests mainly help doctors determine whether the heart needs enough oxygen and better blood flow, such as during exercise. It may be prescribed for people who have chest pain or other symptoms of coronary heart disease (also called coronary artery disease).

A stress test can be used to determine your fitness level, especially if you are starting a new exercise program. This will help your doctor know how much exercise is safe to do.

If you're over 40 or have other risk factors for heart disease, talk to your doctor about whether a stress test is right for you.

The dangers of exercise stress testing
Stress tests are generally considered safe. Especially since it is performed in a controlled environment under the supervision of an experienced doctor.

However, there are rare risks such as chest pain
sudden fall
Pass by
heart
irregular heartbeat
However, the risk of such a reaction during the test is low, because doctors identify the problem in advance. People at high risk for these complications, such as people with advanced coronary artery disease, rarely require testing.

How do you prepare for the stress exam?
Before the examination, your doctor will perform a physical exam and ask for a complete medical history. At this time, talk to your doctor about your symptoms, especially chest pain or shortness of breath.

You should also tell your doctor about any conditions or symptoms that make movement difficult, such as stiff joints caused by arthritis. Finally, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as exercise can affect your blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, your doctor may want to check your blood sugar during a stress test. Your doctor will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare.

Food and medicine
Your doctor may instruct you not to eat or drink caffeinated beverages 3 hours before the test. You should also avoid smoking.

You should stop taking the drug only before the analysis according to the doctor's instructions.

Clothing and personal effects
Please wear loose and comfortable clothing on the day of the exam. Light and breathable are good. Provide comfortable footwear such as sneakers.

How to do an exercise stress test
Start by walking slowly on the treadmill. During testing, the speed and level of the treadmill increase.

If you have any problems, especially chest pain, weakness, or fatigue, you may be asked to stop the test. When your doctor is satisfied with the results, you can stop the exercises. Then monitor your heart rate and breathing for a short time. the type of test
There are three types of stress tests.

Stress test. This is also called the treadmill test. You sit on a treadmill while it's connected to an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine that monitors your heart.

Nuclear stress test. This is also known as the thallium stress test. This exercise is the same as a stress test, but the dye is obtained through an intravenous (IV) line in the arm. This allows health care providers to view images of the heart through a special camera.

Stress echocardiography. This exercise is the same as a stress test, but the doctor also holds a chest transducer. This wand-shaped device generates sound waves that produce moving images of the heart.

For the stress test
Report any chest pain or other complications on the day of the exam.

Connects to the EKG device before starting the workout. Various adhesive pads are attached to the skin under clothes.

Before you start exercising, your doctor or nurse will check your heart rate and breathing. Your doctor may also recommend that you breathe into a tube to test your lung strength.

After the stress test
After the test, you will be given water and rest. If your blood pressure rises during the test, your nurse may continue to monitor your blood pressure.

A few days after the test, your doctor will review the results with you. This test can detect other symptoms of coronary heart disease, such as an irregular heartbeat or clogged arteries.
