Commonwealth Games 2022, a multi-sport event took place in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August 2022. This was the third time when England hosted the Commonwealth Games after London in 1934 and Manchester in 2002.
The games registered 72 participating nations which is the highest in itself and include 1.2 million sales of tickets and held para and non-para games together at the same time which shows this was the first integrated games. In addition to it, this was the first game in which medals won by women are more than men.
Including the sports activity, such games are the events that provide an opportunity to know different people with their different techniques and capability. This also generates a certain amount of understanding between different countries.
Where many countries participated in the CWG 2022 and marked their glory by grabbing medals for their nations, India too participated in the CWG 2022 and performed well.
India grabbed a total of 61 medals in this CWG 2022 inclusive of 22 golds, 16 silver, and 23 bronze. India ranked 4thin the top 8 countries securing a good amount of medals in the games. Australia, England, and Canada ranked First, second, and third on the list.
Several renowned athletes from India performed outstanding and grabbed gold as Nikhat Zareen in Boxing, Amit Panghal in Boxing, and Nitu in Boxing with different weight categories.
Badminton star PV Sindhu and other badminton players Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won gold medals after sacrificing their blood and sweat on the badminton court.
India performed well in the games if we compare it to previous sports events but still, it has powerful rivals like Australia and England. If we see the participation of Indian Players in sports activity over the past several decades either on the National or International stage, the percentage of women has increased.
Today, the participation of women in sports activity is being appreciated by the country which shows the development of the mindset of the society.
Government support and appreciation also matter in accelerating the progress of women in society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi keeps motivating the players so that they can perform well in the next games.
The CWG 2022 ended with the Indian Bhangra and many other stage performance on Monday, 8 August 2022.
