What to do if your Child's glasses are giving them Headaches?

What can you do if your child says his glasses are giving him a headache?

  • Headache is a common symptom when getting used to new glasses and this process can take up to 2 weeks. Fortunately, there are four ways to help your child stop a headache:
Have your child remove their glasses when the pain starts.
    Adjust your child's glasses.
    Clean your child's glasses.
    Visit your child's eye doctor.

How Can Glasses Cause Headaches in Children?
First, find out why glasses can cause headaches in your child.
Part of a child's struggle to adapt to new glasses is avoiding 'learning' the eyes in order to better understand all the strategies they use.
Children often have to adjust to the harmony of the new frame and get used to seeing things from new angles, which can cause strain on their eye muscles.
Overworked eye muscles can cause eye strain, eye strain, and even blurred vision, all of which can cause headaches.
How can you reduce eyeglass-related headaches in your child?
1. Ask the child to remove the glasses when the pain starts.
Children should wear glasses according to the instructions, but if you experience eye pain, headache or dizziness, remove the glasses. To reduce the discomfort, do not let your child go back to wearing glasses. This only delays the tuning process.
In most cases, headaches and eyestrain subside after a few days.
2. Adjust Your Child's Glasses
Your child may experience a headache because the glasses frame does not fit their head properly. To determine if the frame is causing your child's headaches, identify where your glasses are on your face.
Will my glasses come off? Do they leave a red mark on their noses? Isn't the side too narrow? Are your glasses bent towards your child's face?
You may need to make minor adjustments to the nosepiece or stem. If you're reluctant to make these adjustments yourself, your child's optometer (or in-office optometer) can make quick adjustments for you.
3 Clean your child's glasses
If your child still has a headache after wearing the glasses for a few days or after correcting the fit, you should check the lenses.
If your child holds a lot of glasses, the lenses may remain covered with dust and dirt. Gently wipe your child's glasses with a non-abrasive cloth and water.
4. Visit your child's eye doctor
If your child's headache persists after adjusting the frame or cleaning the lenses, consult your child's eye doctor. There may be a problem with your child's eyesight or how to make contact lenses.
Your child's eye doctor may re-examine your eyes to see if there have been any problems since your last eye exam.
