Several dead in Copenhagen mall shooting; suspect arrested

Playing text to speech

A mad dash to safety. What began as a Sunday shopping trip for many turned into a nightmare when a gunman opened fire in Copenhagen's busy Fields Mall. Several people were killed or injured as a result of the attack, which triggered a panicked stampede as people rushed to get out of harm's way.

According to reports, several people were hit by gunfire at Fields Shopping Center. It happened around 6:30 a.m. local time, about 8 kilometres from the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark's capital. Hundreds of people fled the scene.

A 22-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with the killings. His motivation is unknown. He is well-known within the psychiatric system. But he wasn't on any criminal or terrorist watch lists, and the police appear to have ruled out terrorism entirely.

I've seen some of the videos where he holds up guns and plays music, which is basically very violent and suicidal. Now that it's more of a mass shooting, as we've seen in the United States, there are numerous videos of him floating around, and the police have confirmed that they are indeed videos of him.

He had a rifle, a handgun, and a knife, all of which he had illegally obtained. Even if he was a member of a shooting club, that doesn't mean he can have guns in his home.

Who were the attack's victims?

The victim has been identified as a 17-year-old Danish man, a 17-year-old Danish woman, and a 47-year-old Russian national living in Denmark. So far, that's all they've released. There are also a number of people who have minor injuries. They haven't released a tally, but five of them are in critical condition, which they appear to have under control now, so fingers crossed there will be no more fatalities.

The shooting must have come as a surprise to those who live in Denmark's capital. How are the locals dealing with it?

The shooting that took place in Copenhagen on Sunday has left many people there shocked and heartbroken. The city is currently on high alert, with police patrolling and tightening security measures. While schools are closed for the day, people are being advised to stay indoors and avoid congested areas.

It's difficult to say how people are coping with the shooting because it's still a shock for many. However, most people appear to be banding together in support of one another and to stay positive. Several social media campaigns have been launched to help raise funds for the victims and their families, and support groups have also been established to provide emotional support.

We've seen a video floating around on social media. We believe it was shot inside the shopping mall, with people running in panic and screaming, and we can hear several shots fired for the duration of the video which is about 15 seconds.

The scenes are truly terrifying. So far, one person has been arrested. They say they are unable to comment further on the identity of the individual arrested, but it was a quick arrest. There were several armed police officers on the scene shortly after the shooting, as well as a police helicopter and ambulance paramedics.

The alleged gunman wandering around inside Field

Fields Shopping Center is a massive shopping mall that's extremely popular. Not only that, but it's just down the road, less than half a kilometre from the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, where pop star Harry Styles was performing.

It has caused widespread concern in Denmark's capital. Hundreds of people were thought to be in or around the mall at the time, shopping and possibly grabbing some food because it's a popular place for people to relax.

Certain consequences have now occurred. The Royal Family has cancelled a Tour de France-related event scheduled for Sunday evening. The mayor of the city has stated that the incident is extremely serious. And, according to reports, ambulances are still arriving on the scene, and there is a large police presence throughout the city, indicating that a manhunt is still underway.
