Getting married in the pandemic

Playing text to speech

Millions of hearts broke in the year 2020 when the news of pandemic circulated and led to procrastination of several events and occasions. Multiple weddings were lined up and numerous destinations were booked as people decided to take a leap of faith in this leap year. But, as fate would have it, the dreams came crashing by when a highly contagious disease posed its threat at large and ultimately ruined plans worldwide.

Nonetheless, humans have an inherent quality to mingle with others even if there is not any absolute requirement for the same. The need to get accepted, acknowledged, and recognized by their peers is too large for a pandemic to contain. After a rigorous period of lockdown, unlock and follow up of the symptoms and causes of the virus, proceedings and events have somewhat resumed its natural course.

Few days ago, I received an invitation to the wedding, which I was initially apprehensive to attend. There was a doubt regarding the sanitization facility, behavioral aspect of other guests and more importantly the necessity of the event. I was juggling with the emotions of fear and curiosity considering the pros and cons of the complete debacle, eventually I gave in and decided to adopt all the precautionary measures and give it a shot.

Quality over Quantity.

Masks and sanitizers were placed like chat and chowmein stalls of the weddings, guests were quite elated to be served with the new normalcy and people were getting a chance to attend a function after stress and mental pressures pertaining to the virus that they decided to look their best for the event (most importantly because they had no idea if they will survive to attend it again !) Each and every smile reached their eye while greeting one other as the masks covered the half of the face. The eyes sparkled with joy and looked amazed in seeing the beauty around.

Happiness of the guests - The number of guests were less in number but it seemed like everyone had something to say, people were ecstatic to share their thoughts about the happening around the world and how they did not want to come but had to.

Food measure - The food did not go to waste like earlier times as it was prepared while considering the less quantity of guests, people were not criticizing the taste because they were having these delicacies after a while.

Bride’s day - The bride looked beautiful and relaxed as she did not have people gazing over her jewelry and makeup due to the social distancing norms.

Closed affair - It was a closed affair but still there was a sense of content on the face of bride and groom’s parents as they were aware of the success of the party even after being subjected to rules, regulations, and mandatory measures.

This wedding made me realized that we ourselves used to invite troubles earlier by listening to unnecessary advices and criticisms of the people, there is no denying of the fact that the sense of nostalgia is present but it’s just an emotion which needs to addressed and put aside because the reality is not that bad after all.
