Role Of Plastic Eating Enzyme Cocktail

Playing text to speech

Plastic is a useful material, but its waste management has been very challenging. Its chemical or biological degradation is very difficult. A lot of research has been done in this direction.

Plastic Eating enzymes have been made earlier and have been made even better, but this time engineers have come up with a great result. He has made a cocktail of enzymes, which is unique in that he can digest plastic six times faster.

Earlier work was done on this enzyme

The enzyme that was created by these scientists earlier was named PETase, in which the scientists had found this enzyme, they have found another enzyme in the same bacteria. This bacterium survives on plastic bottle supplements. Researchers have mixed this same enzyme with the patents and accelerated the process of plastic fission.

This is the specialty of this enzyme

Patase acts to break down polyethylene terephthalate (PET), making it a possibility of repeated use. This reduces plastic pollution and also the production of greenhouse gases which are responsible for climate change.

PET how important

PET is the most commonly used plastic. This is the plastic that makes beverages, bottles, clothes and carpets used for one time. It normally takes hundreds of years for fragmentation. But Patage does this work in only a few days.

This was the problem

The initial discovery in this direction was considered a revolutionary step towards plastic recycling. The team developed the plastic enzyme in the lab by increasing its plastic feeding capacity by 20 percent. Now researchers have combined the patase and its partner MHETase to form a better coctail, increasing the fragmentation rate of PET twice. With regard to these two, the researchers created a super enzyme, which increased this action threefold.

Idea of mixing both enzymes

The research, published in the Journal of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, has been led by Professor John McGeehan. Researchers say that while discussing, they decided why to mix both patches and matages and they had success in the first experiment. Patage alone was not so fast, but as a first discovery, it raised a lot of expectations.

Even then it was not possible to use patage commercially because it takes a lot of time to eat bottles in the number of tons. But after mixing with other enzymes, both of them showed great speed together, which clearly showed that both of them are capable of giving solutions to plastic waste.

Both enzymes make PET plastic in its original form, which makes the plastic useable again and again. This will end our dependence on fossil fuels with oil and gas. Researchers have not only discovered these enzymes but have also made their industrial production possible.
