Often people understand cannabis and hemp differently, it is not. These are different forms of the same plant species. The male species of the plant is called cannabis and the female species as hemp. Hemp contains more THC than tetrahydrocarbonbinol. Hemp is prepared by drying the flowers, leaves and roots of the plant. At the same time hemp leaves are prepared by grinding. 

Hemp is banned in India while cannabis can be used openly. Even after this, the consumption of cannabis is very popular in the country. It is called cannabis or marijuana in English. In ancient times, women living in Egypt used to soak marijuana in honey.

However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the use of marijuana is beneficial in many diseases. WHO also says that some studies show that hemp is helpful in treating diseases like cancer, AIDS, asthma and glaucoma.

According to a paper published in the International Journal of Ayurveda and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the earliest use of cannabis in medicine is found in the Atharvaveda before 1500 BC. This ancient book mentions cannabis, which is a form of hemp. 

Despite being illegal, it is grown in many parts of the country, especially in the villages of Himachal Pradesh. It is almost impossible to stop its production because it springs up easily. It grows considerably in the wooded areas of the Indian Himalayas. 

Hemp has also been used in ancient traditional Chinese medicines. According to a letter published by the US National Institutes of Health's National Center for Biotechnology Information, cannabis is used to bring moisture to the laxative medicine. Chinese surgeons used cannabis to anesthetize the patient before the operation.
