Village Of Sons-In-Law In India
Playing text to speech
Even today, in most parts of the country, girls usually go to their in-laws after marriage and spend the rest of their lives there, there is also a corner of the country where the married girl does not go to her in-laws but settles in the son-in-law's house.
A small village in Kaushambi in Uttar Pradesh has this identity. Although the name of the village is Hingulpur it is known as the son-in-law's village. This village with sons-in-law has many other characteristics.
At some time in the forefront of female feticide and dowry death, this village of UP adopted a unique way to save its daughters. Decades ago, village elders decided to keep the girl in the maternal home after marriage.
Minorities also adopted this method of Muslim majority population in the village. As soon as the daughters of the village are eligible to get married, this is an important condition in their relationship.
Due to this condition, the girl remains unmarried and then she gets financial problem, to avoid this, special emphasis is given on education and education of girls. After studying, they are also taught some skills like sewing and weaving so that they do not depend financially on anyone.
The sons-in-law of the village also get employment, which is arranged by the villagers together. The sons-in-law of the surrounding districts like Kanpur, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Allahabad and Banda are living in this village. Here marriages from the age of 18 to 70 are settled with their husbands. Here generations of sons-in-law are settled in the same house.

Hingulpur is not the only village. There is one such village near Narsinghpur district headquarters of Madhya Pradesh where sons-in-law reside. The village of Beetli is famous as the village of the Jamies. Most families migrated and settled here from other states. After this, in order to keep their daughters safe, the people of the village decided to keep the daughters in the maiden.
Another big reason is that if the daughter is married away, all the information about the other family is not available. Sometimes the relationship is added with half-incomplete information. In such a situation, the relationship does not last long or both sides get upset. In order to avoid this, in many areas, the custom of settling the son-in-law with the daughter is going on.
Apart from this, Jamai Pada in Adityapur of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand is one such village, where Jamai lives only. In 1960, during the industrialization, people were needed to work in the factories, then the people of this village called their sons-in-law, since then it has been named Jamai Pada, where the daughters still do not go to the in-laws after marriage, Rather sons-in-law settle in the village.
Palod, a small village in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, has a different identity for this reason. People of this village do not marry their daughter out of the village. According to the elders, one reason for getting married in the village is that if the girl gets married in the village, then she will remain in front of their eyes. This will not worry about his safety. Secondly, getting married in the same village, taking a tractor for farming, household work and taking care of children, both families help each other in misery and sickness.
Saudapur village of Haryana has also started the custom of bringing sons-in-law home. The reason for this is the increasing crime with women there. This work started there to reduce it. This village, just a few kilometers from Panipat, now has a sizeable population of sons-in-law and second-generation sons-in-law are also settling there.
