The Beginning of #MeToo

The movement, rooted in 2006, started in 2017 and reached India in 2018. True or untrue may be the allegations, it is Tanushree Dutta who had dared to be the flag bearer of #MeToo. It has been only her who has manifested enough courage to goad a known celebrity and it gave the extremely needed nerve to all the #MeToo survivors.

The #MeToo movement is rooted in 2006, when a social worker, Tarana Burke had only one answer that is #MeToo, to a young girl who shared her story of being sexually assaulted. The phrase turned into a movement when an American artist Alyssa Milano asked to revive it in order to showcase the wide dominance of sexual abuse for women at workplaces. It got huge response by the people on social media when not only laymen but also some prominent names joined it.

It took a time of a year to mark the first #MeToo victim in India. Bollywood Actress, Tanushree Dutta accused one of the senior actors and one of the most established names, Nana Patekar. It must have demanded a ton of valour from Dutta to name him. After a hush, many Bollywood actors came in support of her and now she has become the reason that many women are coming forward to share their #MeToo experience of how they got deprived of their security at their workplaces. This has included central minister MJ Akbar, film maker Vikas Behl, actor Aloknath, AIB star Utsav, Author Chetan Bhagat and the list is continuing on and on.

While some people have been made to quit their job responsibilities, some are being regular with it, while some have accepted the allegations passively, some have regarded it as untrue, every #MeToo story is different in itself though the fact that they share one thing in common that is #MeToo which clearly depicts that how largely are women unsafe and how the things are being ignored. Now, the work culture of the day must be followed by a question mark.
