US bombs Qeshm, Goruk; Kuwait reports missile, drone attacks

The United States military has conducted "self-defence strikes" against Iranian radar and drone control sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. Concurrently, Kuwait has reported a massive wave of hostile missile and drone attacks targeting its territory.

The US Strikes in Goruk and Qeshm Island

  • The Action: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American fighter aircraft targeted and eliminated Iranian air defences, a ground control station, and radar installations.
  • The Reason: CENTCOM labeled the operation a direct response to "aggressive Iranian actions," specifically citing the shootdown of an American MQ-1 Predator drone operating over international waters.
  • Iran's Counterclaim: Tehran disputed the US narrative, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) asserting that the US drone was shot down because it breached Iranian territorial airspace.

Kuwait Under Attack

  • Air Defences Activated: Minutes after the US operation was announced, Kuwait reported that its air defence systems were actively confronting incoming threats, triggering warning sirens across the country.
  • IRGC Retaliation: The IRGC claimed responsibility for launching a retaliatory strike using missiles and drones. They stated the operation targeted a US military base in Kuwait that was allegedly linked to prior operations against Iran's Sirik Island.
  • Kuwait's Response: Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the action, calling it a "dangerous escalation" and a threat to national security.

Wider Geopolitical Impact

These back-and-forth military actions represent the third major breach of the fragile ceasefire agreed upon between Washington and Tehran. The sudden spike in direct state-to-state confrontation has severely strained ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the Trump administration aimed at stabilizing the region, securing a lasting peace agreement, and reopening the highly critical Strait of Hormuz shipping route.
