Why do we perform Yagna? The spiritual science behind it

Universal Harmony Through Sacrifice                                               

The universal harmony is achieved by the specific sign of sacrifice in the Vedic practice of fire ritual known as Yagna. Its main process is dynamic exchange: putting certain items (ghee, grains, herbs) into the holy fire, one is sacrificing self-interest and ownership. The fire which gives a form to Agni devata activates physical substance to subtle energy. This energy that is emitted feeds cosmic forces (devas) and the natural order (Rta) which actively stimulate the balance in the environment and subtle planes. As such, Yagna shows that voluntary, metaphorical sacrifice of finite self brings the individual aware of the cause of uber-wellness, preserving cosmic homeostasis.

Energy Exchange Via Agni

Yagna is an exact process of exchanging energy that focuses on Agni, the sacred fire. Agni plays the critical role of communication and converts physical offerings (havis) to subtle energy using Vedic rituals. This leaves certain frequencies of vibration which are produced. The wood itself is a symbol of vitality and of temporal life of the material being. It is the transformative element that the fire will play, as it burns the bodily structure to set free the identity of the subtle nature. Such offering of material shapes shows that one understands the spiritual development as the letting go of the material attachments. The process transforms the gross matter to subtle energy allowing the cosmic harmony and purification. The idea of the conscious giving corresponding to the spiritual goals is reflected in the act.

Putting of offerings in Agni (fire) is equated to the dissolution of mind pollution like negativism and egoism desires.
