Whatever is old is valued as gold. How?

Playing text to speech

In our ever-changing world that is never satisfied with the current trends and novelties, there is an undying attraction to the old times no one can negate. The saying "Old is Gold" precisely captures the very practical idea that things from the bygone days still have some special value in our lives which are nowadays often better than the temporary appeal of new fashions.

The list is endless: traditions, rituals, diet, and even the environment- it shows why the relics of the past have kept their significance for so long. Be it old songs from 90's or movies of Rajesh Khanna, be it the old cartoons like Mickey Mouse or be it the pink chewy candies that vendors used to sell every summer, we all know how valuable all these things are to us.

 Cultural Riches: Preserving Heritage

The culture of people is like a fabric that is made out of the threads of custom and history. Every thread adds to the fabric of our personality. Traditions from the times past such as ancient rituals, festivals and traditional art traditions offer a connection to our ancestors who came before us and provide a glimpse into the values and beliefs that formed the towns of our forefathers.

Personally in my culture, youngers always take the blessings of elders by touching their feet whenever they go somewhere. Whenever a mother gives birth to a baby, when she comes back home, after 6 days, there happens a pooja for the health and wellness of the baby and mother. These small things might not seem huge but the impact they have are very huge. People celebrate different festivals in their own ways creating and sharing happiness with everyone around them. Things like that are what that bind communities together.

Food Habits: Caring for the Soul.

Inside me, I experience a feeling of comfort every time I smell a specific kind of food or a home-cooked meal, especially if the food is made using recipes that have been passed down from older generations. Such appetizing traditions are not only able to tickle taste buds, but they have the ability to make one remember the happy moments when the family gathered and shared the meal at the full dining table.

From grandmother's magical chicken soup to that wonderful dessert that never fails to come cover a wide range of holidays, they all carry those feelings of warmth and nostalgia no matter what time they are. For example, let us imagine a smell brought by freshly baked bread coming from the kitchen, turning our minds back to the times immemorial when we were just kids helping moms and grandmas in the kitchen, and all these memories stay with us over the years.

 Comfortable Clothing: Ever-timeless Style

In the modern days where fast fashion and a new trend every minute are the rules of the day, somehow the old-fashioned way of dressing offering simplicity and elegance still has some appeal. Whether talking about classic khadi pants or a hand-knitted sweater these items of clothing resonate with eternal belonging without which modern fashion may seem plain and such.

In addition, the durability and longevity [of garments] showcase the quality craftsmanship of yester years, therefore, making it clear that good style doesn't necessarily dictate sustainability. For instance, the aged Khadi clothes or a Silk saree that has been worn for years may withstand time and hold a history that can only be told through them as they once belonged to the individuals who used to wear them.

 Harmony Among People: Building Relationships

In this 24/7 world where tech means usually no face-to-face interaction, community and connection is something underrated. In the previous era, neighborhoods were very close-knit communities where everyone knew each other well and shared almost everything. They supported each other even during difficult times of happiness or sadness.

Although it was sharing a sugar cup with a neighbor next door or organizing neighborhood block parties and picnics in a park, these communal events were core tools that cemented people together, based on the perception of unity that came even without any differences. For example, in small towns and villages where everyone is aware of each other, by name, the community is unbelievably strong with people helping each other by going to different stores and charities.

Nostalgic Neighborhoods: Seek Solace in Surroundings.

Those streets we witnessed as youngsters, the parks where we used to play, and those corner shops we were handing around, will always have a special place in our hearts, since they were where the best of our memories settled down at. The past comes to us flashbacks when we see neighborhoods with shabby but intricate buildings around and their familiar landscapes. They remind us the childhood and beautiful time as if we were back in that time.

Whether it was the neighborhood corner deli where we used to buy a penny candy as children or the old tree-lined street where we used to ride our bikes with friends, this nostalgic place still reminds us about the past when we were in our simple edition, innocent and careless. For instance, in cities such as Paris and Rome, which are characterized by ancient buildings and sites symmetrically standing next to the bustling markets, cafes, and shops, one can feel the historical and traditional atmosphere that brings back to mind the city’s old times.

Appreciating the Immortal Gifts of Heritage

As a result, it is said that "Old is Gold", which means that tradition and nostalgia bring us timeless pleasure. Cultural legacy and the culinary scene, artistic expression and the social networks are but few of the institutions connecting the present to the past. These timeless classics when dutifully passed down to generations that follow don’t only carry our heritage but bring an assurance of warmth and solace that’s ever present.

Looking at the changing reality that is the contemporary world, let us never lose sight of the deep well of wisdom and lasting beauty of the past because in accepting our roots, we discover the abundance and fullness of life.
