Playing text to speech
PM Modi introduced the initiative on January 22, and it was his first move on Budget 2024 after the Ram temple ceremony.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed in her budget statement on Thursday that the Centre's projected rooftop solarisation scheme, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, will deliver up to 300 units of free electricity every month.
PM Modi's first step following the Ram Temple ceremony was to implement the Rooftop Solarisation and Free Electricity Scheme. The idea was revealed on January 22, one day after the event.
Here's everything you should know about the scheme:
(1.) The initiative falls under the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana and will benefit around 10 million (one crore) households by allowing them to sell excess electricity (to DISCOMS).
(2) According to Sitharaman's speech, the project is expected to save these households between ₹15,000 and ₹18,000 annually.
(3.) The state-run Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) Limited is the project's nodal agency.
(4.) The Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana aims to provide electricity to low and middle-income families through rooftop solar installations.
(5.) Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are installed on the roof of a building, residence, or residential property.
Modi said that the program will not only reduce the financial burden of electricity bills for the poor and middle class, but will also accelerate India toward energy self-sufficiency.
Speaking about the government's "Amrit Kaal" strategy, the FM says the government will implement economic policies that will foster and sustain growth, facilitate inclusive and sustainable development, improve productivity, create opportunities for all, and assist them in improving their capabilities and contributing to the generation of resources to power investments and fulfill aspirations. "The government will take up next gen reforms and build consensus with stakeholders for effective implementation."
She says the government is ready to assist states in accelerating the development of aspirational districts and blocks, and that it will devote its full attention to making the eastern region and its people a powerful driver of India's progress.
