Does the Quran and bible says earth is flat

Playing text to speech

Highlights

  • No еxplicit flat Earth statеmеnt- Thе Quran doеs not contain a dirеct vеrsе that еxplicitly statеs thе Earth is flat.
  • Dеscriptivе languagе- Somе vеrsеs usе languagе that could bе mеtaphorical or dеscriptivе rathеr than litеral, such as rеfеrring to thе Earth as "sprеad out" or "a carpеt."
  • Gеocеntric viеw- Somе intеrprеtations of Quranic vеrsеs suggеst a gеocеntric viеw of thе univеrsе, whеrе cеlеstial bodiеs rеvolvе around thе Earth. Howеvеr, this is not nеcеssarily indicativе of a flat Earth.
  • Sciеntific intеrprеtation- Islamic scholars and thеologians havе various intеrprеtations of Quranic vеrsеs rеlatеd to cosmology, and many еmphasizе thе importancе of rеconciling rеligious tеxts with sciеntific knowlеdgе, which ovеrwhеlmingly supports a sphеrical Earth.
  • Historical contеxt- Thе Quran was rеvеalеd ovеr 1,400 yеars ago, and its vеrsеs may rеflеct thе cosmological undеrstanding of that timе. Islamic scholars rеcognizе thе nееd to intеrprеt thеsе vеrsеs in light of modеrn sciеntific undеrstanding.

No, the Quran denies that the Earth is flat. In fact, it tells us that the Earth is round.

What does the Quran say

It is he who has made the earth your cradle and who has shown you the way; and the One who sent down rain from heaven, and therefore We gave birth to various plants. And how We have spread out the earth and how perfectly We have prepared everything!

"And Allah has created for you the earth, a great country"

"So that you can walk on the open roads."

Haven't we turned the earth into a bed,

And the earth, with it, He expanded. Explanation

There are certainly different meanings and interpretations of the above verses, but it is clear that the Quran has not used any words that are even close to the meaning of "Flat Earth".

This allegation is based on mistranslation and interpretation of Arabic words used in the Quran. Let's analyze the different meanings of these words assigned to the earth.

The earth is made like a carpet – the Quran only compares the earth's crust to a carpet. It is a mistake to assume that carpets can only be laid on a perfectly flat surface. Carpets are often placed on a surface that is not very comfortable to walk on.

The Quran only refers to the earth's crust as a carpet, without which we would not be able to survive due to the hot liquid and harsh environment below. Here the Quran not only makes sense, but also refers to a scientific fact discovered by geologists  many centuries later.

The Earth Is spread Out - In these verses the Quran  says that the earth is spread out in a very wide way and does not imply that the earth is flat. It also means that the earth is spread out and prepared for people and for their benefit, so that they can farm, build houses and roam on it. The Quran mentions two Easterners and two Westerners: Let us not forget that the Quran mentioned two Easterners and two Westerners in the following verses;

Lord of two Easts and Lord of two Wests!

So what favor will you both refuse? I swear before the Lord of East and West that We have power.

In the verse Lord of two Easts and Lord of two Wests there is solid evidence that the earth is round because two Easts and two Wests can only happen when the earth is round; for when the sun rises in one region it sets in another, and when it sets in one region it rises in another. Thus, the reality of two east and two west is clearly visible.

The Quran mentions the Sun and Moon orbiting- Another proof that the Quran does not believe the Earth is flat. Allah says in the following verses:

And it was He who created day and night, as well as the sun and moon, each moving in its orbit.

Allah turns night into day and day into night. And He put the sun and the moon at his service. everyone goes on until a certain deadline and that Allah knows what you are doing? Consolidation here means that the night gradually turns into day and vice versa. This phenomenon can only happen if the Earth is spherical in shape. If the earth were flat there would be a sudden change from night to day and from day to night.

Then the following verse also alludes to the spherical shape of the earth:

He created heaven and earth according to the requirements of wisdom. He made the night to cover the day, and He made the day to cover the night; and He set the sun and the moon to serve him; each continues its course until a fixed hour.

Listen; Only He is the Mighty One, the Great Forgiver. The Arabic word used here is Kawwara which means "to overlap" or "to wrap" - the way a turban is wrapped around the head. The overlapping or winding of day and night is possible only if the Earth is spherical. The Quran says that the overlap of day and night forms a ball (orb).

Here too, the Koran deals with ALL MOVEMENTS: not only the sun and the moon but also the Earth. Because in Arabic grammar there is a difference between singular (one), binary (two) and plural (three or more). The reference to the binary number is "Kulhuma Yajrean", but the Quran says "Kullon yajree" in relation to the plural (three or more). Since the sun and the moon are only two but the Quran mentions three or more, according to the Quran all three move: the sun, the moon, and the Earth.

Summary

The Quran is not a book of science but a book of "signs", that is, of the ayat. There are more than six thousand verses, "signs" in the Quran, of which about 750 verses deal with science and knowledge. The above discussion has proven that the Quran not only does not mention the earth as flat but also declares the earth to be round and spherical in many verses.
