Atrocities against Hindus in West Bengal is not new. There have been a number of incidents of violence against Hindus in West Bengal in 2023. These incidents have included the following:

  • In the run-up to the panchayat elections in July, there were a number of clashes between supporters of different political parties, resulting in the deaths of several people. Some of these clashes were specifically targeted against Hindus, and there were reports of temples being vandalized and Hindu families being attacked.
  • On Ram Navami, a Hindu festival, there were a number of communal clashes in different parts of the state. In some cases, these clashes resulted in the deaths of people. There were also reports of Hindu temples being vandalized and Hindu families being attacked.
  •  In May, a Hindu woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of men in the Nadia district of West Bengal. The woman's family has alleged that the attack was motivated by her religion.

These are just a few of the incidents of violence against Hindus that have taken place in West Bengal in 2023. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of Hindus in the state, and have led to calls for the government to take action to protect them.

The government of West Bengal has denied that there is a systematic pattern of violence against Hindus in the state. However, the incidents that have taken place have led to a sense of insecurity among many Hindus. There have also been reports of police inaction in some cases, which has further exacerbated the sense of insecurity.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been accused of playing a role in the violence against Hindus in West Bengal. The party has been accused of pitting one community against the other, and of failing to take action to protect Hindus from violence. TMC leader and West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee is equally criticised for keeping mum in the atrocities happening in West Bengal.

There have been a number of incidents in which TMC supporters have been accused of attacking Hindus. In July 2023, for example, there were clashes between TMC and BJP supporters in the run-up to the panchayat elections. In some cases, these clashes were specifically targeted against Hindus, and there were reports of temples being vandalized and Hindu families being attacked.

The TMC has denied these allegations, and has accused the BJP of trying to create a communal divide in the state. However, the incidents of violence against Hindus have led to a sense of insecurity among many Hindus, and have raised questions about the TMC's role in protecting them.

In May 2023, a Hindu woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of men in the Nadia district of West Bengal. The woman's family has alleged that the attack was motivated by her religion. The TMC has denied these allegations, and has said that the police are investigating the case.

The violence against Hindus in West Bengal is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. The government needs to take steps to ensure the safety of all its citizens, regardless of their religion. This includes taking action to prevent communal clashes, prosecuting those responsible for violence, and providing support to victims of violence.

It is important to note that the TMC is a large and diverse party, and there is no single view on the issue of violence against Hindus. Some TMC leaders have condemned the violence, while others have been more critical of the BJP. It is also important to note that the allegations against the TMC are unproven, and the party has denied any involvement in the violence.

However, the incidents of violence against Hindus have raised concerns about the safety of Hindus in West Bengal, and have led to calls for the government to take action to protect them.
