Saudi Arabia tells U.S. that Iran is prepping attack on kingdom

Playing text to speech

On November 1, Saudi Arabia notified a US official of Iran's intention to carry out a fatal strike in Saudi Arabia within 48 hours. According to Saudi Arabia, Iran is plotting this terrible strike in order to divert attention away from the ongoing protests, which have intensified after Mahsa Amini's death, and toward something else.

Well, since Iran's conversion to Islam in 1979, there have been protests throughout, but more lately, they have spread to the entire nation. News of the killing and torture of both men and women who desired freedom of expression and appearnace spread. 154 people have died thus far. Iran has a history of murdering members of its minority group. Mahsa was from the Kurdish minority in west Iran, thus the government attacked the province of Kurdistan in retaliation. Although the government is aware that many people despise them, they are beginning with one community to fight.

Saudi Arabia and Iran

For decades, Saudi Arabia and Iran have been at war. Due to the fact that Iran and Saudi Arabia both adhere to the Shia and Sunni branch of Islam, respectively, there is a religious divide that has resulted in this conflict. The Saudi were worried ever since Iran began to Islamize. The president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, was a Sunni despite the country being primarily Shiite. Thus, Saudi Arabia backed Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War. The Saudis sought to isolate Iran. Riyadh objected to the Iran-six-power nuclear agreement because it feared that Iran's isolation from the rest of the world would cease. Saudi Arabia, a major enemy of Iran, as a result has aimed to forge deeper ties with Israel.

Iran has been charged by Saudi Arabia and the US with supporting Houthi missile assaults and attacks on oil reserves in 2019. Iran, however, has refuted these charges and asserted that they are all attempts to harm the country.

USA and Iran

Tension between the US and Iran first surfaced in 1951 after the British withdrew and Mohammad Mossadegh took over as prime minister and began controlling natural resources. The US and UK then realized how reliant on those energy supplies they were. Iranians were anti-American and wanted self-rule. The US backed Iraq in the Iraq-Iran war and labelled Iran a terrorist nation. Iran began developing nuclear weapons, which the US saw as a potential threat. An agreement was reached wherein Iran would reduce its nuclear weapons production in return for the easing of sanctions. Trump's administration terminated the nuclear agreement and assassinated Qasem Soleimani, Iran's top general.

The histories of these three countries are all incredibly bloody. The fact that Iran and oil resources unite the US and Saudi Arabia against a common foe makes them strong allies. Both of these nations have killed numerous innocent people without receiving much media attention. Iran has also bombed its minorities and the Iraqi border, and later even admitted to employing drones and missiles.
