INDIA'S ROLE IN BANGLADESH'S LIBERATION WAR

Playing text to speech

BANGLADESH'S WAR OF INDEPENDENCE OR  BANGLADESH'S LIBERATION WAR :-

Bangladesh’s War of Independence or Bangladesh Liberation War was a violent , repulsive revolt and major conflict between the East Pakistan (Now formed Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (Now formed Pakistan) that lasted for almost nine months in 1971 . And the main reason for this war was to separate nations on the basis of different linguistic identities as there was a conflict going between the East and West Pakistan after the West Pakistanis were trying to impose Urdu language on the Eastern Pakistanis because they were not agreed to follow any forced linguistic based cultures or traditions . This war ended by the separation of a newly formed Bangladesh from Pakistan and hence they succeeded in their aim . In this journey of getting independence and liberation for newly formed Bangladesh , India had fully helped Bangladesh by providing them support in terms of war and providing its territory to shield Bangladesh . This was the reason India had a great contribution towards the formation of Bangladesh as the West Pakistan did not allowed East Pakistan’s Awami League Party to form government there after winning all the seats and support from the natives as well as the West Pakistan also tried to suppress the people of East Pakistan by their armies which led to a large scale migration from East Pakistan to India leading to major border disputes between India and Pakistan as India was not able to adopt such a large number of refugees all of a sudden because this situation also arose a sense of insecurity among Indian natives about the beginning of a new war .

It was not even easy for India to fought for Bangladesh as during 1971 , India does not have much armed resources and full-fledged nuclear weapons which made India to wait till winters to initiate the war as they did not want China to enter into the war as they were the allied force of the Pakistan. India wanted to start war during the winters as they were enough sure of the incapability of the Chinese army to climb mountains during the winters . However , India also convinced and persuaded USA and its ally USSR to enter into the war but US did to pay much heed  regarding this matter.

In November 1971 , there was an offensive revolt between India and Pakistan regarding Mukti Bahini Fighters as General Sam Manekshaw informed India the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to move across the borders and to back Mukti Bahini Fighters to which reflected a major impact on Pakistan's sense of security by India's move .

After that , Pakistan had launched operation ‘Chengiz Khan’ on India by attacking its 11 air bases on its Western front part on December 3 . This attack resulted in the beginning of a 13 day war between India and Pakistan which somewhat ended on December 16. It ended by the fall of combined forces of India to Dhaka and the Mukti Bahini . In response to Pakistan's attack , India launched operation ‘Trident’ and fought through air , ground and naval forces to make Pakistan surrender . It was the first time after Independence that India fought so well with its full-fledged nuclear power and weapons .

The Eastern Pakistan then called for a ceasefire which made India to command Pakistan to surrender its troops and with no other choice left , the General of Pakistan officially surrendered on December 16 , 1971. This marked the end of Bangladesh Liberation War and it eventually led the birth of a new country called “Bangladesh” .

'ROLE OF INDIA DURING BANGLADESH LIBERATION WAR'

  • India provided nuclear support to Bangladesh in terms of air forces , ground and navy forces .
  • India supported the Mukti Bahini Guerrillas in order to increase the unity among East Pakistan and to strengthen the struggle amongst them again West Pakistan .

“DOES INDIA WAS EXPECTING ANY HELP FROM BANGLADESH DURING THE BANGLADESH'S WAR OF INDEPENDENCE”

India had helped Bangladesh during the time when there were extreme level of conflicts between the East and West Pakistan which resulted in the formation of a separate country and the winning of Bangladeshi's . But does it mean that India helped Bangladesh without any reason or there's a hidden motive behind all those things which India did for Bangladesh . As we all know that India had been always an enemy of Pakistan so it was obvious for India to help Banglagesh in order to defeat Pakistan for its ongoing prestige and supremacy . After the 1971 war , India started to use Bangladesh's territory in order to check upon the activities of Pakistan . There's also an increase in the trade between India and Bangladesh which strengthen their relations and they also started joint railway lines “Mitali Express” to reflect the goodwill of their relations. In this way , both the countries were showing mutual interest in the enhancement and growth of their culture and trade through sharing its different linguistic and traditions identities with each other .
