The Arjun tree, also known as Terminalia Arjuna, is known in Ayurveda for a variety of health and skin care benefits. The bark of this tree is the main medicinal component used for therapeutic purposes. In addition to its many skin benefits, it is also known for its cardioprotective effects. The medicinal properties of T. Arjuna range from antioxidant, antihypertensive, antiatherogenic, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antimutagenic effects to gastroprotective effects. Arjuna is also enriched with certain minerals important for heart health like potassium and several other components like arjungenin, arjunolic acid, polyphenols, and gallates. Its cardiotonic properties help strengthen the heart muscles and these are very well described and explained in the ancient science of Ayurveda.
Different ways to use Arjuna:
This herb can be incorporated into your routine in several ways. It is usually incorporated orally and topically for various health and skin care benefits.
It can be used in the form of decoction, Arjuna tea, tablets, or powder for oral consumption. For topical application, it can be mixed with other herbs and blends according to the cure and can be applied.
To treat severe heart problems, the herb should only be ingested under the guidance of an Ayurvedic doctor.
Arjuna for different skin types and problems:
Arjuna for pigmentation
According to Ayurveda, hyperpigmentation is associated with an aggravated Dosha Pitta in the body, which occurs due to heat and sunlight and hormonal imbalance in the body. Arjuna bark helps reduce tan and pigmentation thanks to its rebalancing properties.
An anti-pigmentation mask can be made by mixing 1 teaspoon of fresh Arjuna bark powder and milk with 2-3 g of wild turmeric. This can be applied evenly to the face and neck for 5-10 minutes and then rinsed off with plain water. This anti-pigmentation mask can be used 1-3 times a week.
In addition, applying a blend of Arjuna Bark and Manjistha Root (Rubia Cordifolia) powders with honey to the face helps reduce dark spots and pigmentation.
Arjuna for skin aging
Arjuna Bark Extract is a great addition to your anti-aging routine. Aging is usually associated with an increase in the number of free radicals. Arjuna is known for its antioxidant properties which prevent skin damage caused by these free radicals. It helps in the regeneration of skin cells, moisturizes the skin, and improves skin elasticity. It also prevents skin thinning and sagging.
Arjuna for dry and rough skin
Arjuna is beneficial for dry and rough skin problems as it strengthens the skin barrier by reducing transepidermal moisture loss and stimulates sebum production, reducing dry skin marks and protecting the skin from other external challenges.
Arjuna for acne and pimples
Arjuna paste helps control acne and pimples by reducing inflammation thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. It also has astringent properties that trigger the contraction of skin cells and help reduce acne caused by excessive oil production in the skin.
A mixture of fresh Arjuna bark and honey paste can be applied evenly to the face for 4-5 minutes. Rinse with plain water. This can be used 2-3 times a week as a remedy for acne and pimples.
