IS INDIA HEADING TOWARDS CIVIL WAR?

Playing text to speech

Lalu Prasad Yadav is an Indian politician and the president of the political party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), former Chief Minister of Bihar, Union Minister of Railways, and Member of Parliament of the Lok Sabha.

Though war of words between two political parties is nothing new, recently Lalu Prasad Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, lashed out at the BJP-led central government, claiming that the nation was on the verge of civil war. The former Chief Minister delivered a virtual address at the Sampoorna Kranti Diwas, urging people to unite against the opposition and 'fight together.'

On the occasion of Sampoorna Kranti Diwas in Patna, a verbal battle ensued. On this day, a number of political parties, including the BJP, JDU, and RJD, held festivities.

Lalu Yadav, who was supposed to attend RJD's Sampoorna Kranti Divas, was unable to attend owing to illness but sent a video message instead. The RJD leader began by paying respect to Loknayak Jayaprakash and recalling how, as a student leader under Jayaprakash Narayan's guidance, he battled authoritarianism 48 years ago.

Addressing (virtually) RJD's grand alliance representative conference on 'Sampoorna Kranti Diwas' (Total Revolution), Lalu Yadav said, “Jay Prakash Narayan taught us about Sampooran Kranti. Total revolution. He defined it by saying that we need to bring the last man to the mainstream. Under him, youths, students and democratic parties fought against the dictatorship. Today the situation is the same. Dictatorship is on rising. I have said multiple times that the way Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is working, the country is heading towards civil war. We need to fight against inflation, unemployment and corruption. I appeal to everyone who is present at the conference that we need to come together and fight and I am assured that we will win.”

Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition leader in the Bihar Assembly and the son of Lalu Yadav, condemned the NDA government for dragging the state into unemployment and claimed that no work is being done by any government department. 'Bihar remains the centre of unemployment, no work is being done in any department of NDA government... They are just sowing poison in the society,' Tejashwi said.

In response, former Union Minister and Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back at Lalu. Ravi Shankar Prasad also attacked the Lalu family on the issue of corruption.

“Jayaprakash had given the slogan at that time to eradicate corruption, make a new Bihar. Today, for those who are talking about total revolution, what do they have to say about JP's slogan? Many big actions are being taken and punishment is also being given in corruption cases. Everyone has the right to give respect to JP, but how much do those who are talking about JP follow his teachings is a bigger question”, Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Notably, the Mahagathbandhan leaders, led by the RJD, arranged an event at Gyan Bhawan in Patna on the occasion of Sampoorna Kranti Diwas, in which RJD and Left leaders participated. The RJD, on the other hand, did not invite Congress to this event.
