Moving towards a faster and efficient India: 5G trials in India
Playing text to speech
The ‘internet’ is both very commonly accessible and easily misunderstood term. Many people misunderstand it as a freestanding entity but the truth is, it has government organizations, industries and multiple companies, major internet providers and tech companies lending support in its development, infrastructure & management. Hence, it is not a freely operated agency.
Any development or change in internet will require the collaboration and oversight of all the aforementioned authorities. One such development has been brought up in India in the form of 5G trials announced from May, 2021 and they have already been started in Pune.
To catalyst the growing demand for high-speed internet in our country this decision has been taken by the government. It realized that as the foundational technology of our age, internet is one of the most basic necessity among others, which are required for progression and development in the society. The transition to the fifth generation (5G) has become a necessity in the pandemic-struck world, with schools, offices, and industries relying on home networks for their connectivity.
Bandwidth of 5G spectrum:
The 5G spectrum specializes in 3 types of bandwidths:
• Low- has wide coverage and signal penetration; but low speed (up to 100 mbps)
• Medium- has limited coverage till industries and factories; and higher speed.
• High- has extremely narrow coverage & signal penetration strength and high speeds (up to 20 gbps)
Huge tech-giants in India have been given the responsibility to undertake trials, like- Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone-Idea and MTNL.
• They would be carried out in urban, semi-urban and rural areas.
• The trails are supposed to be conducted for 6 months during which 2 months will be taken for procurement and setting-up of equipment.
