Difference Between Urban and Rural Life Of India

Playing text to speech

Both rural and urban areas have their positive and negative aspects of life. The lives of both regions are quite different from each other. Traditionally, India is primarily a rural country, as Mahatma Gandhi also said, the real India lives in villages.

The villages are full of festivals and fairs. Festivals are celebrated here in the traditional way with a sense of brotherhood. Be it Holi, Baisakhi, Pongal, Onam, Dussehra, Diwali or Eid be any festival, the entire village dances together to the tune of folk music. All the people in the village live in bondage to the fraternity.

They share the circumstances of life, whether it is sorrow or happiness, with each other. Although their lifestyles are not much developed compared to those of urban people, yet rural people are warm and more cordial. They also take care of each other more and all the people in the whole village recognize each other. They do not live in a state of isolation like metropolitan cities.

The natural beauty of villages is also seen in India. The flowering of flowers around the lush green fields and the alcoholic fragrance spread far and wide. In the village, birds chirping happily around the fields, barns and houses. Simplicity is the hallmark of rural life.

Unfortunately, people are migrating from rural areas to urban areas on a large scale due to the search for jobs and the glare of materials for comfort and amenities. However, now villages in the country are also moving in terms of standard of living and urbanization is happening at a fast pace.

Facilities of electricity, water, concrete roads, telephones, mobile phones, computers, education and medical care are now accessible in many parts of rural India. Farmers too are now using modern agricultural implements, and now they are plowing fields by tractors instead of bullocks.

But there are also many problems in rural life. There are often land-related disputes and at times in the same gotra, incidents of bloodshed and violence also occur due to love marriage. Many times, gram panchayats discuss various disputes and give very harsh and ruthless judgment. With which the lives of people become a story filled with sorrow and pain.

The people of the village depend on the sale of their agricultural products such as grains, fruits, and vegetables in their urban markets, and at the same time, the urban people cannot survive without the supply of essential commodities for life from rural areas.

People from villages come to the city every day to travel to buy the latest essentials of modern life, watch movies, enjoy and work in urban establishments. In fact, the overall development of India is impossible without the harmonious development of villages and cities as both of them complement each other.

Life in cities has its own negative aspect - it is full of pressure, tension, and anxiety. People here have many materials of comfort and facilities but they do not have mental peace. They are so busy with work related to personal and professional life that they are not even aware of the happenings in their neighborhood.

Thus, the life of villages and cities presents two conflicting images. Both have their positive and negative aspects and it depends on the individual how to make the most of the opportunities available in any living environment, whether in rural or urban life.

Due to continuous busyness, the health of urban people also has a huge impact and they suffer various diseases related to lifestyle at an early age. Some of them have to face illnesses such as sleeplessness at night and deteriorating mental balance. In this way, there is a difference of ground and sky in life in rural and urban areas, but both of them are integral to the development of India.
