Assam Oil Well Fire Accident : Why We Are Prone To It ?

Playing text to speech

A fire in an oil well in the Tinsukia district of Assam is proving to be a major headache for the entire region. The fire is so fierce that its flames can be seen from ten kilometers away. The vast green area is filled with black smoke. According to experts, it will take at least four weeks to overcome this.

Remember, this is not an accident. On 27 May, there was an explosion in this oil well after which the gas was leaking there. Due to this, not only the people of this place but also the wildlife were living. It was raining oil from the sky, polluting the water sources. My dolphins were seen landing in the river.

Now 15 days later, it results in the burning of the entire oil well. The fire that burns for at least one more month will not harm the environment. But it is not the only industrial accident that has stirred up the public in recent times.

Barely a week ago, eight workers were killed and 57 were badly injured when a chemical factory boiler burst in Bharuch city of Gujarat. Before that, it was difficult to forget the way people fainted and started rolling under the influence of poison gas from a polymer company in Visakhapatnam.

In the investigation, different reasons can be found behind all these accidents, but one thing is shared that these incidents happened at a time when the country is facing coronavirus and lockdown. All the factories have to be closed immediately due to the first lockdown, then they have to open with half-third of the staff as the workers leave the village.

Keep in mind, the picture of the workers who carry or carry the burden on the one-time word from the word laborer emerges in the mind, it does not give any idea of the skills of this workforce. Most of the laborers handling industrial work are specialized in a particular job. Replacement them immediately is beyond the capacity of any management.

The latest trend is to have fewer employees in companies. The result is that filling the void created by the exodus of workers due to corona and lockdown is like chewing iron grams for the management of all enterprises. All work should be started only after assessing this complexity, otherwise, some more unfortunate events may have to be witnessed in the coming days.

A few days ago, the news of gas leaks in the Chembur area of Mumbai has spread panic among people. The need of the hour is that the management of the companies and the governments start serious efforts to bring the workers back from the village, along with ensuring all the security measures.

Why the heck are we prone to these kinds of fire accidents which happen at natural resource spaces? It is simply because of negligence accompanied by unpreparedness which will surely make us get into a compromised situation again in the nearby future. Once we are done then there will no chance to have safeguards ecosystem set up for our very own survival. Assam oil well fire accident is a supreme and prime example of it.
