Pandit Nehru: Whom India can never forget
Playing text to speech
During 2019 Lok Sabha Election Pandit Nehru has been very much highlighted as Narendra Modi mentioned about his during the rallies. Modi does not agree that Nehru did well for the country but not only India the world has never hesitated in recognizing Jawaharlal Nehru as a historical figure who left a mark on India and the world. After the death of Nehru in 1964, the New York Times referred him as the “maker of modern India”; the Economist put forward a cover story titled “World without Nehru”. These cover stories narrates his “almost magical grip” on the masses and even condoled that the world stage would be poorer without this “great man” Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
However, with the passing time there has been an evident and considerable shift in opinion among public about Nehru in India. There was the time when he was idolized by the public while he lived but nowadays the things have changed widely as the people are getting to know the reality with passing time and it is making them to actively forget him or diminish his role. The current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has even said in the parliament that “India did not get democracy due to Pandit Nehru, as Congress wants us to believe”. As a result the Nehru has been dropped from Class VIII school textbooks in the state of Rajasthan.
His leadership skill were not up to the mark as India suffered a lot after Independence, the way he handled and managed the Economic growth of the country. Nehru and the Congress Party thought the people of India love him and admired him at the time, and as a result it probably ended up as the worst disaster to ever hit India, most importantly in economic terms for India. As his name specifies Pandit, which means Nehru was basically a Brahmin, and he did not like the business minded people. It left an adverse effect in the development of country as instead of the government getting out of the way and letting the market allocate business resources, the government did it on their own. And ultimately the result came out as an incredible waste of resources. This taught the whole country a lesson that the way to fight poverty is not by chopping the pie in smaller pieces but finding out the solutions for how to make a bigger pie and give benefit to maximum people regardless of their economic status.
There are numerous facts and stories about Pandit Nehru which have been kept hidden from not only to the people of India but also to the whole world. He was the also the one of them who was responsible for the partition of country as India and Pakistan. He wanted to be the First Prime Minister of India, in spite of not getting the majority votes from party members. The whole party voted for Sardar Patel, but the greed of power and being a close friend of Gandhi. Gandhi manipulated the things and requested Sardar Patel to withdraw his name and let Nehru be the first Prime Minister of India. The greed of power and inefficiency to lead the country in a proper manner makes India to face the humiliating lose in war against China after Independence.
