The Spiritual Connection Between Birds and Souls in Vedic Thought

By MindStick

In Vedic literature, birds are often portrayed as symbols of the soul’s journey.

The Hamsa, or swan, is a sacred bird in Vedic philosophy. It symbolizes purity, detachment, and the Paramatman (Supreme Soul).

The Mundaka Upanishad describes two birds on a tree—one eats the fruit (soul involved in action), the other watches in silence (the higher Self).

In Vedic rituals and epics, birds are seen as divine messengers. Their flight patterns, calls, and behavior are interpreted as omens.

Birds epitomize the soul's ultimate quest—Moksha (liberation). Upon death, it’s believed the soul takes flight.
