William Colgate, an English immigrant to America, created William Colgate & Company, a starch, soap, and candle factory in New York City, in 1806.

In 1873, Colgate launched its first aromatic jar-based toothpaste.

Meanwhile, dentist Washington Sheffield created the first tube toothpaste, Colgate Ribbon Dental Cream, in 1896.

In 1928, Colgate & Company merged with Palmolive-Peet Company to form Colgate-Palmolive Company, and became the world's largest consumer products firm

Today, it is a multinational consumer goods corporation best known for its well-known oral care products, notably the world's leading toothpaste brand
