The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is a deep-sea fish found off Australia and New Zealand's shores.
It is famous for its unusual appearance, which is generated by the severe pressure of its surroundings.
The gelatinous nature and soft bones of the blobfish allow it to tolerate enormous pressures of up to 6,000 feet, which would crush a normal fish.
The blobfish is frequently described as "ugly" or "sad" in appearance. However, keep in mind that the blobfish is excellently adapted to its habitat.
Although the blobfish was named the "world's ugliest animal" in 2013, it has subsequently become a popular internet meme.
