Who brought the idea for skyscrapers?

By MindStick

The concept of skyscrapers was initially invented in the 1850s by the French architect Viollet-le-Duc.

He imagined big buildings with metal frames and large windows to let in more light and air.

Not until the 1870s, the construction of skyscrapers increased due to advancements in steel frame elevators and the Bessemer steel production process.

The Home Insurance Building in Chicago, designed by William LeBaron Jenney, is widely considered the first skyscraper, completed in 1885.

It is a 10 story steel-framed skyscraper, laid the foundation for future taller buildings with thinner walls and open floor plans.
