Is a panda a carnivore?

By MindStick

The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a bear species found only in China.

Although the giant panda is legally categorised as a carnivore, its diet is mostly herbivorous, consisting virtually entirely of bamboo.

However, in the wild, giant pandas will eat various grasses, wild tubers, or even meat from birds, rodents, or carrion.

Pandas reproduce at an extremely low rate. Females only have one cub every two to three years.

Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as climate change, pandas are currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species
