Mawlynnong is India's cleanest village, located in the East Khasi Hills area in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya.
It is known for its cleanliness and was named Asia's cleanest village in 2003 by Discover India magazine.
Mawlynnong villagers value nature and their community.
They took initiatives to keep their village clean: using bamboo dustbins, banned plastics, planting trees & flowers, and organising regular cleaning.
Mawlynnong is now a lovely and pure community as a result of these efforts.
