Kashmir conflict and partition in 1947

Playing text to speech

Kashmir is a rеgion in South Asia locatеd in thе northеrn part of thе Indian subcontinеnt.

Thе conflict datеs back to thе partition of British India in 1947, whеn thе princеly statе of Jammu and Kashmir bеcamе a point of contеntion.

Kеy Highlights

  • 1947 Partition- Thе princеly statе of Jammu and Kashmir was givеn thе option to join еithеr India or Pakistan. Maharaja Hari Singh chosе to accеdе to India, lеading to thе first Indo-Pakistani war.
  • 1947-1948 War- Thе first war bеtwееn India and Pakistan was fought ovеr Kashmir. It еndеd with thе еstablishmеnt of thе Linе of Control (LoC), dividing Kashmir into Indian-administеrеd Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-administеrеd Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
  • 1965 Indo-Pak War- Anothеr war bеtwееn India and Pakistan took placе, largеly ovеr Kashmir. Thе conflict еndеd in a cеasеfirе, with no significant changеs to thе status quo.
  • 1971 Indo-Pak War- Whilе thе 1971 war was primarily cеntеrеd on East Pakistan (now Bangladеsh), it also saw skirmishеs in Kashmir. Pakistan attеmptеd to infiltratе Kashmir, but India rеtainеd control.

Background

The Kashmir issue began in October 1947, when Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir) was an independent country with an area of 85,806 square miles.

When united India was divided and Pakistan and India became two countries, Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh  decided to keep the state independent instead of merging into Pakistan or India and this decision made accepted by Pakistan through the deadlock agreement. while India does not accept this decision of Maharaja.

Kashmir conflict and partition in 1947

In August 1947, the inhabitants of the Poonch region in Azad Kashmir and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan rebelled against Maharaja's army and began guerrilla warfare.

The uprising against the Dogra army was started by Sardar Ibrahim and Sardar Qayyum Khan. Qayyum Khan personally joined the battlefield while Ibrahim Khan was mainly in Pakistan overseeing political affairs and thereby supplying weapons to local rebels. This guerrilla war continued and on the night of October 22, 1947, when the Pakistani army and the Pashtun tribes (who had been wrongly taught that Muslims were oppressed in Kashmir and therefore Jihad) became compulsory there) attacked Azad Kashmir.

During this attack, barbarian tribes and armies massacred moderate Hindus and Sikhs living in Azad Kashmir and forced them to leave Azad Kashmir. As a result, a large number of Hindus and Sikhs migrated from Azad Kashmir and moved to Indian-administered Jammu.

After the Pakistani tribes and army attacked and plundered Azad Kashmir, the Kashmir valley was about to be occupied, the ruler of this state, Maharaja Hari Singh, appealed to India on October 26, 1947 and annexed the state. This entry is conditional. India. Then the Indian army entered Kashmir to help the Maharaja's army and stop the tribal and Pakistani armies where they came from, then the United Nations stopped the war and where the war stopped, a bloody demarcation line Blood is drawn from there, which is now known as the Line of Control .

After that, part was under Pakistani administration and the rest under Indian administration. I think at that time Maharaja Hari Singh had no choice because Pakistan tricked Maharaja Hari Singh into recognizing Jammu and Kashmir state as an independent state and then launched an attack or undeclared war. So I consider Maharaja Hari Singh's initiative to ask for help from India and if Maharaja had not taken this initiative, Jammu and Kashmir would not have existed as it is today.

If an objective analysis is offered on this issue then it would be correct to say that Pakistan is primarily responsible for the Kashmir issue.

Current situation

  • Currently, the state of Jammu and Kashmir is divided into three parts. India Pakistan and China. India
  • 41,342 square miles administered by India
  • (Jammu, Kashmir Valley and Laddakh)

Pakistan

  • 33,958 square miles administered by Pakistan
  • (Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir)

China

  • 10,506 square miles is administered by China.
  • (Part of Laddakh and Shaksgam Valley donated by Pak to China)

Now, what is the solution to this problem?

To solve this problem, it is important to know what people in the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir want.

In this regard, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, a multi-religious country, have different opinions or opinions. Three voices are heard in the state of Jammu and Kashmir on the solution of the Kashmir issue.

1 – Kashmir is part of India

2 - Independent Jammu and Kashmir

3 – Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan or Kashmir is part of Pakistan

The important thing now is to see what the majority of the state wants.

1- Kashmir is part of India or Kashmir one piece(atoot ang) of India

I think most of the state of Jammu and Kashmir considers Kashmir to be part of India and wants to stay with India. Those who believe that Kashmir is an integral part of India are more numerous in Jammu and Ladakh and now also in the Kashmir Valley. (I see people from Azad Kashmir expressing support for India on social media, but no such political activity in practice)

2- Jammu and Kashmir are independent.

The second opinion is that the state of Jammu and Kashmir should be as independent as it was in 1947. Those who believe in the idea of an independent Jammu and Kashmir are highest in Azad Kashmir, followed by smaller numbers in Jammu, Gilgit Laddakh and the Kashmir Valley.

3 - Kashmir converted into Pakistan

The third and lowest opinion of the state of Jammu and Kashmir is that Kashmir is a part of Pakistan and whenever a decision is made it will be in Pakistan's favor. Ten percent of the people of Azad Kashmir believe in this ideology and the majority of Gilgit-Baltistan people also consider themselves Pakistani.

The Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan  ideology has spread widely in the Kashmir valley, but now the voice of Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan has died out and very few people follow this ideology. Ignore the harshness of India in the Kashmir valley but now people understand that we lost a generation of young people to Pakistan but gained nothing so I think now the voice of Pakistan in the Kashmir Valley has end. This is my analysis on the Kashmir issue

My personal view is that the solution of the Kashmir issue must be in accordance with the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, whether it is in favor of India or in favor of Pakistan or whether it becomes an independent state. set up or not. But we Jammu and Kashmir people must have the right to decide the future of our state.
