Leaders are ‘Born’ or ‘Made’? Is quite a similar question like, Which came first Egg or Chicken?

Leadership is basically exercising the inherent skills in a manner which always enhances the existing abilities. Leadership is not always about commanding or being on the forefront and always attracting the limelight towards you.

According to me, Leadership is a skill which always in a ratio of 80:20. It means a leader is born with only having 20% of inherent skills whereas, rest 80% skills he/she has to develop while working over it. Having a leadership skill is not always proof that a person can succeed as a leader. A leader needs to enhance and learn new skills to be a good leader.

Leaders are Born or Made?

For example, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincolns, and many more. All these leaders are born with leadership skills yet, they learned many things with passing time so that, people can follow them and do things in a proper manner. A successful leader always invites feedback and new methodology to attain a good and respectable status.

As it is a quite difficult question to answer because many people think that leaders are born not made and vice-versa. In contrast to this, the leaders say that a leader is a combination of inheritance and learning both. It means inherent leadership skill is not proof that you can be a good or a successful leader until unless you don’t work upon your skills.

But there will always be a great difference between ‘learning the skill’ and ‘mastering one’. Like, a person born with great musical knowledge or athletic talents. The person born with skills can excel naturally and easily in their respective areas whereas, mastering over the skill will require a lot of effort and it makes the learner feel like fish out of water and struggling hard to get to the same point.

Leaders are Born or Made?

Leadership is a lifetime learning activity. A good leader always seeks out for opportunities to learn new skills which help him to improve by each passing day. He always tries to absorb the positive energy and good qualities from the one whom they meet. As to become a leader, cannot be taught to anyone until the person didn’t want to. A person can be a good leader only if he/she is ‘self-aware’.

Leadership is an ‘Art’, filled with a set of innate traits, which can be refined and perfected over time with learnings, experiences, and training. A good leader always visualizes the situation and place first i.e. mark their presence being at the right place at the right time. It the most important thing to understand and with which your talent can shine forth.

Many a time, Leadership is a choice. The person who came forward to take the challenges can become a good leader and it is a decision taken willingly. A leader can be anywhere in the crowd but the important thing is to realize your caliber. As, the researches even claim that, Leadership is a quality which is a combination of one-third born and two-thirds made.

Ultimately, leadership is a skill depends on how one defines it. So, a Leader can be made and born both. Any individual can be a leader but the matter is how you utilize and enhance your skills, and lastly few exceptions are everywhere. So, we can’t deny the fact either that some are born with leadership quality but he/she can only sustain it when they respect the quality and work over it regularly.
