# Why is Refined Oil not Good for you?

[Refined oil](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/299997/10-amazing-benefits-of-using-almond-oil) is a type of processed natural oil obtained after processing natural oil with many chemicals to meet consumer expectations such as odorless and tasteless oil and long shelf life. To meet the need for longer shelf life

The oil goes through a hydrogenation process, in which liquid unsaturated fats are converted into solid fats by adding hydrogen, resulting in excessive production of trans fats in the oil. It will have an adverse effect. Use high heat, high pressure, and chemical solvents to extract essential oils from herbs. This causes the oil to oxidize and harden, losing most or all of its properties. This makes them poisonous. Regular intake of [refined oils](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/83372/which-refined-oils-are-good-for-you-health) can cause cancer, diabetes (DM), gastrointestinal disorders, atherosclerosis, obesity, reproductive disorders, and immune disorders.

### Effects on the heart and brain

The high temperatures used during the refining process remove all valuable and [natural elements](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/106792/how-do-the-vedas-describe-the-natural-elements) from them. Instead, it increases the amount of trans fat, which is known to raise bad [LDL cholesterol](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/4296/7-tips-to-remove-dead-ldl-cholesterol-from-body), triglyceride, and insulin levels and lower beneficial HDL cholesterol. All these LDL and trans fats build up in the arteries and cause plaque buildup. Plaque buildup can narrow these arteries and reduce blood flow to the heart. Eventually, the reduced blood flow can cause chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, or other signs and symptoms of coronary artery disease. A complete blockage can cause a [heart attack](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115997/is-this-true-singer-actor-rishabh-tandon-dies-of-heart-attack). If the plaque ruptures, it blocks blood flow to the brain and causes a stroke.

Omega 6 and Omega 3 are essential fats for brain development, hormone production, cellular health, and the [immune system](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/300472/ways-to-improve-your-immune-system). These oils need to be in proper balance. The correct ratio of omega 3 and 6 is 1:4 to 1:2. Unfortunately, refined oils contain a ratio close to 20:1. Researchers have found that excessive omega 6 consumption has detrimental effects on gut health and can cause inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, and immune cell damage. Therefore, our diet should be rich in omega 3 for better gut health as they are anti-inflammatory.

### Carcinogenic Effect
