# Industry 4.0 (Design principles and goals)

There are four [design principles](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/157670/explain-the-design-principles-of-security-in-os) in [Industry 4.0](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/303144/what-is-meant-by-industry-4-0). These principles support companies in identifying and implementing Industry 4.0 scenarios.

• Interconnection: The ability of machines, devices, sensors, and people to connect and communicate with each other via the [Internet of Things](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12738/the-five-main-benefits-of-the-internet-of-things) (IoT) or the Internet of People (IoP)

• Information [transparency](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/336962/how-blockchain-technology-be-applied-to-improve-transparency-in-industries): The transparency afforded by Industry 4.0 [technology](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13005/the-functional-aspects-of-laser-technology) provides operators with vast amounts of useful information needed to make appropriate decisions. Inter-connectivity allows operators to collect immense amounts of data and information from all points in the [manufacturing](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/167329/improving-productivity-within-the-manufacturing-industry) process, thus aiding [functionality](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/136/using-watermark-functionality-in-textbox-by-jquery) and identifying key areas that can benefit from innovation and improvement.

• [Technical assistance](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/32811/what-are-my-obligations-as-an-employer-under-title-i-of-the-americans-with-disabilities-act-and-where-can-i-get-technical-assistance): First, the ability of assistance systems to support humans by aggregating and visualizing information comprehensively for making [informed decisions](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/105787/how-to-navigate-through-market-volatility-and-make-informed-decisions) and solving urgent problems on short notice. Second, the ability of cyber physical systems to physically support humans by conducting a range of tasks that are unpleasant, too exhausting, or unsafe for their human co-workers.

• Decentralized decisions: The ability of cyber physical systems to make decisions on their own and to perform their tasks as autonomously as possible. Only in the case of [exceptions](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/22871/define-predifined-generic-exceptions), interference, or conflicting goals, are tasks delegated to a higher level.
